Ok getting angry now - car is waiting on a bloody grille!

Post by Bada Bing! » Thu Sep 14, 2006 3:02 pm

My car's been in for 6 weeks for new clam, and the latest news is that there is a worldwide shortage of S2 grilles. Does anyone have one they can give me or know where I can find one. I'm actually starting to feel pretty ill about the whole thing. :(

IIRC it's in an Arnold Shark bodyshop and not MMC...

Drive the car without until they source one?

They're telling me they can't release the car without it because the clam has to come back off in order to fit it.

Think I should just push the issue? Would anything realistically happen if I drove without it?

You could be really unlucky and have a stone (like a brick) come up and damage the rad core. FWIW, Scotty in Abz ran his S1 without one for ages and never had a problem.

As for the clam having to come back off - check that with another 111R owner, I thought that only applied to S2 Exiges, but may be wrong on that. The K series S2 grille was easy to get on and off....

OH NO, not Arnold Clarks... they really have to be the worst, wrotten dirty cheating scum bags ever!!!!!!!!

I hope you checked the milage on your car before it went in? They are probably all having a shot at using it for commuting & joy rides.

One of their staff drove into me once, in one of their hire cars, outside their office. Totally their fault, they admitted responsiblity, and offered to fix it all in their body shop. The car came back, with the side trim covering the fuel filler cap, totally, and yellow paint spashed all over the car (which was blue). Complete fools the lot of them. A mate who works in the trade also tells me that they are the worst.

Next time I requred body work repair, I made sure it was not with AC. Which it was not. However, the reparirer had to use AC, as it was a Renault, and AC have a monopoly on Renault dealerships in Glasgow. AC kept the car waiting for 10 weeks for a part. The part in question was a seat cover, where the side airbag had gone off. For nearly 10 weeks, they continually promised delivery with in two or so days. All rubbish. Eventually I managed to get on to the P.A. of the chairman for renault UK, who organized the part to be removed from a show room car, and sent next day delivery.

I really hope they don't make a mess of your car.

There is something eerily familiar about this thread.....

If I hadnt started chasing up an oil cooler myself ( With the help of SE'ers) my car would probably still be sitting in the workshop.

I would get the phone book out and start trying every dealer in the UK and Lotus themselves.

Thanks for this mate, you pretty much confirmed what I thought. I drove down in person to the bodyshop and told them I wanted the car tomorrow ready to go. They've agreed. I spoke to the boss man who said if I have any issue fitting the grille when it turns up that I should bring it in and they'll sort it.

So a sort of vitory then...
