Should I report this or not...road rage.

Post by Victor Meldrew » Thu Sep 14, 2006 9:35 pm

Just been on the recieving end of a skinny young ned whos abilities didnt meet his expectations..

Passed a parked car with his lights on, who then moved off behind me, just before my turn off (right) then had to wait as there was oncoming traffic. Same car, Green Focus, nearly rams the back of me as he obviously didnt expect me to stop for the oncoming car.

I move forward a foot to give him room to get through inside (thought I was being helpful) he pulls along side and starts shouting. Door opens and out step 18-20 year old skinny bloke with spots an blonde hair.

Out I get at which point he must be thinking "sh*t thats not an old man driving an old mans car, he's a big bloke"

He shouts "what were you $%^ waiting for"

me "there was a car coming"

him " there was plenty time to get through"

me" If you want to make an issue out of it we can make an issue out of it, otherwise get back in your car and F(*& off"

He lives a few hundred yards from me and could easily find my house if he wanted to... car isnt garaged. What do you think?
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

If you report it they probably won't do anything and even if it then gets damaged you need witnesses so I've no idea what to do :?

If you report it, they will follow it up.

I have reported a few road rage incidents. Most notably the following;

I was travelling home on Bearsden Road, a car in front signalled right so I indicated left to get into the left hand lane, it was rush hour so fairly busy. There was plenty of room on the left but a Passat driver behind me didnt fancy the thought of being a car length later home from work so floored it to cut me off.

I moved inside, long story short he went apesh1t. Weeved in and out of traffic until he got in front of me then slammed on the anchors, forced me onto the central reservation then got out and challenged me to get out the car.
Sense got the better of me for once so I just drove straight to the local copshop and reported the prick. Fully told the story as it was, I might have cut him up a bit but only because he was driving dangerously.

The polis phoned a few days later to say they had visited the guy at home and spoken to him in front of his thouroughly mortified wife. Interestingly the copper who phoned me happened to mention his wife was heavily pregnant and he already had a toddler, they also noticed the car seat in the back of his passat and were non impressed with his attitude at first.

In the end they let him off with a caution but the response I got from the police was good for once.

Some options...

1. Report it to the cops.

Scenario 1
They may, MAY, go round and have a quiet word. That would probably be about it. He will know it was you but depending how the cops are that might be the end of it. Good if it happens again as he will have a bit of previous, even better if it puts him off behaving like a wee twat again. Especially if the next person he wants to have a go at is your mum. Or me.
But how big a ned is he?

Scenario 2
Cops go and see him, he sets the dogs on the police and knowing it was you sets fire to your house. And car.

2. Don't report it to the cops.

Scenario 1
He forgets about it and nothing happens, or he possibly treats you with a semblance of respect as you stood up to him and have impeccable taste in motorcars. And maybe he goes home rants to his mates about you and still does nothing.

Scenario 2
He remembers you were a bit lippy and, late one night when drunk sets fire to your house.

3. Beat him up. Have him beaten up.
I have no opinion. I am an abject coward and anything along these lines would unfortunately end up with me in A&E. Crying.

The ned in scenario 2 is a psycho. Don't annoy him, especially if he knows where you live.

The scenario 1 ned won't do anything either way, I'd go with do nothing.

I had an unusual road rage incident. Was on the bike (pedalling :)) I worked my way to the front of the queue of stationary traffic which had stopped at the red light. A guy at the front of the queue of cars was so pissed off that I went to the front (err hello I think someone should get out more) when we all moved away at the green light he cut across me so aggresively that he couldnt then stop (locked his wheels in the dry!) before mounting a fairly high kerb and smashing his nearside wheel. Probably did some steering damage also. Oops. :) What a silly person

I went to the Police station (just down the road) Cops couldnt be arsed! I said he tried to kill me. Wasnt exagerating either. Be safe out there 8)

It really depends on how much of a psycho or how "connected" you think he is. If I thought he was just a wee local ned, then I'd report it. If you think he seems quite shady/involved in serious crime/etc., just leave it and hope he forgets about it.

I had an incident once when two pretty shady looking neds pulled up beside me and got out, trying to get me to put the window down or get out of the car . . . all because I was doing 30mph in a . . . wait for it . . . 30mph limit!!! It gave me quite a scare! I really don't understand what the hell I did to piss them off! Was just obeying the fecking speed limit! Thank feck for the lock button on the inside of my door handle (had a civic at the time). I'm glad my Elise also has such a button for the central locking! I was sh!tting myself for quite a while after that. Thought they might have taken a note of my reg and would be looking for me everytime I was in the area!

Also had an incident where a "UK Waste" truck driver got out the car simply because I gave him a quick 'toot' on the horn to warn him I was there when he pulled right out in front of me on a roundabout. It wasn't an aggressive toot - just trying to make sure he saw me and didn't hit me! He stopped his truck, blocked a major roundabout in rush hour and came up to the car threatening me. I lost it a wee bit that time and told him to read his f***ing highway code and learn that you give way to traffic from the right on a roundabout!! Took his registration with the aim of reporting him to his company, but completely forgot and ended up just leaving it.

I think you're generally just better leaving it. People forget these things in no time at all.

Well its posted on the forum now.. so if anything does happen, the date it happened etc is recorded and commented on by plenty so if I have to go to the police then tyhere is no way I just made this whole thing up.

I dont like giving them more to do. They are overstreached as it is.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....
