Just bought our "travel system" last week, since when I have been working night and day to invent a machine that makes it possible to slap an entire industry.

Not cheap, eh Graeme! Missus wanted an iCandy pram/pushchair which had to accommodate the Maxi Cosi car seat, then you need the adapters, the base for the car, rain covers, foot muff - jeezo! Now all sitting doing nothing! If you went for a Maxi Cosi car seat and need a base - let me know, we can do a deal, we have two sitting doing nothing!

Thanks Peter, but the best fitting car-seat/adapter for us was Silver Cross, which isn't compatible with anything but other Silver Cross stuff, so we ended sticking to that brand. The pram/pushchair bits were not my first choice for build quality, but it was a clear winner in my in-store handling test, and about mid-range on price, so it's an ok result. Still feel like I've been properly bent over though!

It does get better though, big fella.

3 years time you'll have Fraser Junior running around keeping our two honest, and wreaking general havoc on Campaganzas, while you and Miss V site with us lot getting quietly merry and talking about "the old days" at that crazy campsite in Northumberland when Rossyboy Taylor was racing his Se7en ;-)

What's your due date again? Not far off Eilidh's birthday, as I recall...well be at Brighouse Bay if you need an escape...

Going through similar ourselves just now. I thought that investigating car seats, buggies etc was something useful I could do but no. There seems to be very little objective testing done of these things and the whole compatability thing I think is designed to be confusing.
Equally, how come they're so bloody heavy? Anyone on here with a high end push bike will attest to how light they can be yet a buggy which only has to move at a few mph and carry a few kg can weigh almost twice as much. I pointed out to ellie that if you asked parents to be what they wanted from a buggy they'd say
1-light
2-easy to collapse
3-compact
4-able to accept most market leader baby seats.
As far as I've seen there isn't one which covers all these bases.

Oh happy days! :D

Due date is 7th August. So basically, any day now. I don't see any camping happening in the near future, but thanks and I hope you all have fun!

Agreed. Add in one more requirement:

5- greater torsional rigidity than a sherry trifle.

and it definitely doesn't exist.

Start with testing the fitting of a few car seats, pick the best and work backwards. You'll see what I mean by best fitting when you try a few... they're not all equal in all cars, and the choice was very clear for us. That helps narrows the choice for the rest of the crap.

Apart from the retail aspect, I'm quite calm about the whole dad thing. Not because I'm prepared in any way, I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but after billions of fathers before me I think the odds of me being the first one who can't work out what to do as I go along are pretty slim. :)

The only change I've noticed in myself this year is that I've started (not really consciously) putting safety quite high on my priority list. I have never in my life owned a fire extinguisher, fire blanket, a decent first aid kit or a CO detector, and now the house and cars are slowly filling up with them.

What you need is a icandy Peach, light-ish but very easy to put up and down....one handed infact :thumbsup

We also have a Phil & Ted Explorer for a little bit off-road which it is excellent at but not the easiest to put up and down!

As for car seat we love our Maxi Cosi with isofix base, again just works really well IMO

:cheers
