TV Series worth watching ?

Post by IanD » Thu Oct 03, 2013 12:54 am

While realising Grand Designs is one of the few programmes I try to watch (and missed tonight), out of interest what recent TV Series are worth watching and why ?

While channel flicking the other week home without wife, I watched 1st 2 episodes of Orphan Black and found it ok, enough to watch the next few. To be honest I think a major part was because of Tatiana Maslany

I've had Series 1 of Mad Men for 6 months and never got round to watching it yet. Over last few years I've liked watching Homeland, Suits, Flash forward and a few years earlier Heroes

Just finished last ever episode of "Dexter" and "Breaking Bad".

"Dexter" although some good seasons , season 8 and the final episode was poor.

"Breaking Bad" although IMO started slowly in season one but is WELL worth watching. Superb show.

Working my way over all 9 seasons of the american "Office". More like a sitcom that the UK version but very funny.

Started "The Tudors" but hard going but good for history buffs.

Finished "Falling Skies" best Sci-Fi around but not "Game of Thrones "quality. Hard to find a good Sci-Fi. Its starts well in S1 but goes down hill IMO.

"Game of Thrones " is a must watch IMO (has anyone not actually seen it ?)

"Homeland" series 3 has just started.

"Boardwalk Empire" is just about to start again (S3 iirc).

"Continuum" is ok , they like moral messages and happy endings. Typical mass audience story telling.

Started "Persons of Interest" but its not great.

Started "White Collar" but its not great.

"Suits" is a good watch , another "they like moral messages and happy endings". Typical mass audience story telling.

Kevin Spacey in "House of Cards" is good.

Another Sci-Fi (in the mass audience story telling bracket) was "Defiance".

"Walking Dead" S1 is very good , S2 is very slow. Its a good watch in general.

"Mad Men" was enjoyable.

"Heroes" never watched it , is it worth it ?

"Flash Forward" didnt work for me. Gave up.

.... i may watch too much TV :)

For some reason I started watching GOT from series 3, so now catching up with one and two.

One of tithe main characters is a bit of a wimp for the part, but plenty of gore and shagging.

The Inbetweeners - immature toilet humour

The Killing - if you can get past the subtitles it's captivating stuff.

If you've not seen it - 24 was excellent

Just finished series 2 of Homeland - Jessica Brody (Morena Baccarin) is plain stunning :thumbsup

All set to watch series 3 (hate the use of the word "season" in this context, so effin Americanised ), starts this Sunday on ch4.

Breaking Bad is utterly brilliant, but only seen up to the end of series 4, as I'm a pikey with it in freebie electronic format (portable hard drives are very prevalent in my line of work :blackeye )

As others have said, Breaking Bad is the best thing I've watched in years. :thumbsup

Hear good things about Ray Donovan on Sky Atlantic.

If you haven't watched them already, the most recent Sherlock series is excellent. (I think Mark Gattis is a very talented writer, as well as actor).

Waiting for the next series to see how he faked his death.

Hope that he does not appear out of the shower.

'the returned' was quite interesting in weird and quirky way (subtitled)
And definately 'my name is earl' not for the moral story, which for an american series is decidedly non-preachy (surprising even more as it's all about karma) but for the hot babes.

Enjoyed the "Returned", and all the Swedish/Danish series were great.
