No new tyre news in a while from teh big companies. Anyone aware of a tyre between the T1 and the 888 ?

Not happy with the T1s melting so quickly on track but need to have a balance for road runs and mway work.

I have seen your car about here, so somewhere local who is also good is Collins tyre services in Johnstone. He supplied my T1-rs on my last car. Phone and speak to Phil and mention they are for an elise.

I've used Toyo T1-S, T1-R, Advan LTS and BF Goodrich on my S1 and rate them as follows:

T1-S horrible sidewall flex
T1-R still noticeable flex but better
BF Goodrich - better than Advans in the wet
Advans - Best in dry, zero noticeable flex

So I'd go for Advans every time unless money is an issue, in which case, go for the BF Goodrich (about Toyo price) and avoid Toyos.

I've noticed that nobody ever mentions Bridgestones when people ask for tyre advice. Is this because they're really bad? If so, why did Lotus put them on all S2s as standard until recently? :?

I just replaced the Bridgestones on mine (primarily because i needed tyres that day and that's all i could get!) i got them from Drivers in Glasgow for £400 fitted for 4 - MMC wanted nearer £720!

I find them OK -but I haven't tracked my car (yet!) - tenkfeet has them and tracks his - may be better asking his opinion!

Cheers

Just in the process of getting a new set of 48s due to my wider alloys I am going for non LTS tyres.
I went through Fairfield Motorsports (01656 725000)
Cost me 105 + Vat per corner!
Total bill including Vat and delivery under £493!
They seem competitive not sure about anything else though.

Where is best for fitting in the Edinburgh area that will do tyres that are not purchased through themselves?

they gave me 10% discount which wasnt too bad and i had them fitted at my local tyre fitter. think it worked out around £110 per rear tyre including the vat.

I got a quote well under £400 for Bridgestones from Motacare, Greenock. They're usually pretty good, but if you come to Greenock someone will probably steal your wheels. With the car attached.

If you can take the wheels off the car and deliver them yourself then CLCM (0131 458 5559) round the corner from MMC is a good bet - he does a good job on balancing them. However, he has muckle old jacks and has been known to scratch the sills if you let him take the wheels off, so if you cannot take them off yourself, best to at least do it yourself while he fits tyres and balances them. Prices are OK too, though not absolute cheapest.

Remember some tyre places won't know where to jack, won't ask and will bend your wishbones, then they will use air guns to take off and, worse, put on your wheels. They'll also fit the balancing weights on the inside (nice) but not notice that there is no clearance to caliper so they get knocked off first revolution (not nice).

Be there. Watch them. Like a hawk.

Cheers,
Robin
