Does your elise have to be kept in a garage?

Post by Wacky Racer » Sun Sep 24, 2006 7:46 pm

Hi guys

I've just got my car and was just wondering other peoples views or experiences of keeping the car and if indeed it is a must to keep it indoors especially during the winter.

Also does the winter salt on the road have any adverse effects on the car even though it is plastic and alloy.

Sorry to sound stupid.

If you can I would keep it in the garage as it will reduce your insurance cost considerably.

Car "should" be less subject to any vandalism/theft. Other advantage is that once you wash it you can tuck it away knowing that all your good work is not down the drain with all the rain/muck making it dirty again.

keep mine in the garage every night. Loads of guys on here leave them out all year round though and there seem to be fine.

Left mine outside all year (when I had it). Hard top was on mostly through the winter (during the week only of course). No probs at all. If you get heavy snow, be sure to clear out the radiator vents to prevent overheating.

Don't have a garage so bought a car cover from Elise Parts.

Works very well -

keeps washed/polished car clean after hard work

prevents leaking worries in heavy rain

tight fit with soft underside so paint protected

straps pass under body for longer term storage

no bird sh*t/tree sap

Keep the car in private car park for residents but I feel the cover also detracts from vandalism ie car not recognised as a lotus and cannot be peered into or quickly scratched.

Have had no problems and cheaper than garage rental or building one

Despite some little piece of scum running over the top of my car last night, generally they cope well with living outside and haven't really had any problem until now. Though until recently I had mine garaged.

Only had mine under two months, but it'll definitely be outside all year. No hard top, no car cover. Parked in driveway in a reasonably quiet area, so no major vandalism/theft worries. Having just had a couple of small leaks fixed, I don't think the weather will be a problem now.
