Mmm like the guy but surely you need experience to compete at that level.

First race at Oulten........hope he has more success than the time he binned Mike's old 211 there.

Hope he does well, seems like a great petrolhead.

Think it could be a case of fame above ability/experience.

I do not see how he can get near that standard in the time, and what about licences, surely he would need a high level of Professional licence to race at Le Mans?

Hats off to the guy, from his days on the track he obviously knows the racing line, he's a legend and living the dream, good luck to him... If I was in his position and had the opportunity I'd love to do the same.
Total respect and best wishes from me.

I agree, good luck to the guy, he must have a modicum of ability or the team wouldn't use him, but it's probably a lot to do with the level of publicity he will attract too.
He will presumably need to compete a fair bit to get to achieve his Licence for that level of competition so with the right tuition he should be able to make a half decent fist of it.

He raced radicals all last season, and will race gt for 2 and a half seasons before Le Mans, a pretty decent level of prep I would say!

Competing in gt amateur class along with a heap of other "inexperienced" and gentlemen racers.

Perfectly doable for him I would have thought, just like it would be for many of our race car drivers on here.

Money and famous face for the publicity is the key and hoy has both.

Good on him.

Licence is easy all you got to do is race and keep it clean. I was one step away from the licence he will need for Le Mans.

Good on him, hope he does well.

Is there anyone on here, experienced or not that wouldn't do it if they got the chance?

Great to see this.

Not sure how this sits with his role as "ambassador" for Jaguar :?

To achieve what he has done in his sporting career takes dedication and commitment. I'm pretty sure that will stand him in good stead as long as he's got the cash/support to put the hours in.

Le Mans has always had a wide range of abilities competing. At least these days, there's a class specifically for the 'Gentlemen drivers'. I think Hoy will be keen to get himself among the best of these, very quickly though. I'm happy to see such a name in international sport go to the greatest race on earth though - will be following him with great interest.

Wasn't he going to race Radicals last year? Did anything happen with that?
