Well, currently within the Forties we think we have at least twenty years left and as drilling and recovery techniques improve I would expect that figure to increase.

Why do they print that crap? Far more than 5 years oil left and AFAIK we've got vast quantities of coal left, we just choose not to mine it as it's cheaper getting it from elsewhere

Our biggest concern is production costs. One major player in the North sea and middle east has just published these figures and explains why they have cancelled 11 of 12 well for next year. Basically one barrel in the North sea costs $45 dollar s to produce as opposed to $7 in the middle east.

Their oil can t last forever so just means ours will be left for a while.

What a lot of rubbish. Again the 20 plat forms I have worked on had 15-20 years production in them without any intervention.

Yep, keeping these old dogs producing oil requires a lot of investment nevermind keeping us lot in Sports Cars and fancy watches

The days when the BBC News was unbiased and 'proper' news is long gone. Commercialism and politics long ago started to influence news in the developed democracies worldwide. The BBC has to compete so have joined the bandwagon started by Rupert M and his cronies years ago. News is no longer news as it used to be. Anything and everything you now see or read has to be taken with a large pinch of salt. Companies are 'selling' news. They do not want to broaden your mind or make you more informed, they merely want you to read what they write or watch what they screen so you do not read of watch some other source, so the more shocking or 'out there' the news the more chance you will stay with them and not go elsewhere.

Like it or not, this is the world we now live in. 24 hour a day news makes the world a dumper, less enlightened place. More in this case is definately less.

George Orwell was right, it was just his timeframe was a little too short. 1984 is just around the corner

PS. I am sure there is a conspiracy theory out there this would fit in with.

PPS. Re news that is not really news, just have a look at some of the global warming / climate change articles for 15 - 20 years ago. That is when this type of poor news reporting really took off.....

Hopefully there will be something for the future generations, but I remember reading a few years ago about Aberdeen's history regarding how it would survive once the granite and fish industries were finished.

Look at Glasgow and all the jobs that were lost on the Clyde, I am sure people back then thought that the area would be a ghost town after shipbuilding finished.
