DOT codes and on-line tyres

Ordered a pair of Pirelli front tyres for the Merc for the Mrs car from Oponeo. All good re price delivery. Was reading about their policy on tyre age which made me check the DOT code on the tyres on arrival and all good there too with the tyres only 3 months old. All in, no issues at all.
I have never paid too much attention to DOT codes but seeing as I had ordered & fitted a pair of rears in April for the Mrs car, I went out and had a look at them to find the tyres were 2.5 years old when I received them in April! These were ordered from Camskills.
I expect being rears on a RWD car a good chance she wears them out before any cracking appears or becomes an issue. The rear tyres on the car are now older than the car itself! So, lesson learnt here on checking the DOT code of any tyres I buy in future and a 'heads-up' to anyone else ordering tyres online.
