I think my number plate is about to *ahem* fall off.

Any one got any thoughts? How much hassle should I expect should I delay in replacing it?

Min fell off last week (genuinely, damn kerbs  ) and not had any plods saying anything, and have passed a few. I had a teenyweeny plate on my last car and a motorbike plate on my elise so in 40k miles with dodgy front plates Ive had no issues.

i think legaly you only actually need a plate on the back as you do on motorbikes

Nope - a pile of the guys got producers on a run in Braemar earlier in the year. You definately need a front plate and the same sizing and spacing rules apply...

They only tend to do you if they are in a really bad mood though - the thing to do is carry your plate in the boot (perferrably drive over it first and crack it up a bit) to claim that it has "just got ripped off on a speed hump, officer"

Ed, i've had a 3/4 on since i got the car in Jan and have done about 9k with no problems at all. [touch wood] Mine was from fancyplates and is standard UK font and spacing. TBH it looks in proportion with the VX front end and only looks really small when you take it off and compare it with the back.

I wouldn't go for a 3/4 size plate unless the font is fully legal (which I don't think it can). Better to do without and at least you have a plausible excuse. As Gareth can testify, small plate = £30 fine.
