What do you all make of the new rules on pit to radio comms? http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/94728 ... ot-Be-Said . Could make a big difference. About time some of the drivers (Massa and Vettel come to mind most) HTFU and stopped being mollycoddled by their race engineers if you ask me Should suit Kimi 'leave me alone I know what I'm doing' though ....

Take the steering wheel off as well and put one from an S1 on.

It's problematic in more technical areas, though - e.g. brake temps and whether or not you have enough fuel to get to end of race at current pace, etc., etc.

I don't want to see brakes failing, or cars stopped on track with no fuel in the tank.

Maybe they'll just start coding this all on the pitboard?

As with team orders when they banned that... it will still happen it will just be less obvious.

I read an article in evo where they were saying that the engineer talks to the driver three times a lap at Le mans. Required to ensure they hit the right energy consumption rate.

Two similar sports with vastly different approaches to the regulations and competition.

Agree with Robin. It runs high risk of drivers not managing technical issues, which possibly could/will deny us fans of some good racing. The sentiment is good, ie. ridding us of this "driving tips?" (Nico Rosberg quote) nonsense, but they could have simply not broadcast those messages!

IMHO it's a fairly transparent attempt to spice up the show during the end of season. This 'rule clarification' should have been delayed till start next season. I think, of the main two protagonists, it will favour Rosberg on the technical side and Hamilton on the driving tips side - net gain to Rosberg (you have to finish races...).

They're going to police pit boards too, to avoid that...

I think it adds to the entertainment value hearing the drivers' thoughts throughout the race. There's going to be hardly any radio traffic at all now and it will remove a lot of "personality" from the cars.

Surely it will just move the communication to a different means - if the pit boards are being controlled, then I'm sure it would be easy enough to have some warning lights at the top of the steering wheel to communicate technical info to the drivers.

That's very much the intention. All info on driver's display so he manages it himself. Prohibition of some items is being delayed to give the teams time to develop software.

But (unless I misunderstood your comment, Dom) it is illegal to transmit data/telemetry to the car, so live instructions from pits/factory not possible, ie. no communication. Driver's info and driver's response all self-contained in the thing that's going round in circles.

I did not realise that was illegal to transmit data to the car... ignore me then.

I'm still sure they will get around it - use different coloured pit boards for example - green - go faster fuel is fine, blue ease off, save fuel, red check your brake temps,. etc etc...

The teams could be totally radical and fit a fuel gauge with a warning light Joking aside, I'm pretty sure MotoGP (a far more exciting sport ) allows the bike to calculate its fuel reserve against race distance remaining and adjusts the fuel map accordingly.
