Someone on my Facebook posted the actual crash (spectator recording) it was a massive impact, nearly took out a Marshall and toppled the crane. Poor lad, hope he pulls through...

Makes a lot more sense now - hope he makes a recovery.

Makes you wonder why he was going so fast under yellow flag and safety car conditions? Certainly didnt look like he was skidding out of control, just going straight on at speed. Did something fail?

It's a miracle that he came out alive.

It wasn't safety car yet, just a controlled yellow flag at the incident. There's even a green flag being waved at the next marshal post 50yards away.
It's got to be mechanical failure or target fixation. I fear we will never know the truth because when he's better I doubt he'll remember much.

This could be the answer in this other video, moments before Bianchi crashes at the end of this video, in the raised flag post above the incident the Marshall is waving a green flag! The Dunlop curve is a long sweeping uphill left hander and from the track Bianchi would not have seen the recovery vehicle or Sutil's car but he would have seen the green flag being waved as its up high. He probably over corrected an oversteer moment mid corner firing him off directly towards the crane.

sh*t, just watched the first video I posted again and the Marshall is still waving the green flag in the raised hut above the incident. Gezzo, surely this has been picked up by the FIA???
Mental.

The marshal post is past (just) where they are recovering the car and they are supposed to be level with the marshal before considered clear of the incident that the waved yellows where out for. That and he was still traveling at a hell of lick when he should have been slowing for the corner. Much much faster than Sutil who was skidding out of control. Strange, very strange. Almost as if he had no brakes as it didn't look like he had scrubbed off any speed before hitting the JCB.

yup, that marshall should definitely have been displaying double waved yellows and the next marshall post nearer degner 1 displaying a green flag. I think the speed factor would be down to the short distance from the track to the barrier and the fact it was really wet / aquaplaning.

That is horrific and unbelievably high speed so surprising that it wasn't fatal. From earlier still pictures I guess it was a glancing head blow as his crash helmet was still in one piece but still a HUGE hit.
Let's hope Bianchi makes a full recovery.

eh?
the green flag at that post is correct, the post is after the incident (all be it only just) but still after.
it denotes the end of the caution zone, it does not mean as soon as you see it, you can boot it though, you have to be past it.

I agree, the green flag is correct, I remember noticing it during the race from an on board shot, and thinking it looked odd, then realising it was after the accident.
Some serious speed being carried in there, and a LOT of movement on that JCB considering its weight. My brain still tells me the car should be travelling backwards though!

yup, he was clearly going way too fast (remember, it was under double waved yellows - ie, be prepared to stop).
can see what you mean about the direction, my guess is he had already done a 360 before we see it, and had managed to get it back to straight, but in the process simply ran out of room.
