Verian has found one in the garden, lord knows which event from, but I have just charged it up and it is opening up and asking for the passcode.

Would like to return it to the owner, but unless I can access Settings then I do not know who it belongs to. Any way around it?

I heard from a friend who lost his iPhone 6 a week after getting it, that the person who found it used Siri and said 'Call Home' or 'Mum' ' Dad' and got round the passcode that way to make a call and track down the owner...

Not sure if that would work for an iPhone 4...

That should work on an i-phone 4 too, although is it not likely that (depending on when it was lost) it may have been deactivated so there's no info in the phonebook?

Push a needle into the hole in the side and take out the sim.
Then place it another Iphone 4 that you have access to............
Go into settings - phone - and read the cell number
Some of the users contacts may be stored on the sim - import them and see if you recognise any names
Failing that phone the number listed from another phone and wait for the voicemail announcement

A more obscure way would be to look for the phone on your wifi settings - to see if the owner used it to tether to other devices
e.g Tutphone or DDTBdon'tyoutdareusemyfcukinwifi

Sensible answers above. But I say hack it, as it will be more fun ;)

Create a custom ramdisk image, boot the phone with said ramdisk and brute force crack the 4 digit pin... Sound like an interesting project to liven up a formula 1 race this weekend? :cheers

When was the last event at Tut Towers? Have Apple really upped their build quality so much that an iPhone can live outside for a period and just need a charge and work :O

Thanks guys cracked it.

Switched the phone off, held the Home button for 3 sec at the same time connecting the phone to my MBA via USB cable, the phone showed up in iTunes on the MBA as a Device, followed the instructions to restore, it went through a couple of restarts then the iPhone booted up into the new phone/setup screen, put in all my details including my Apple ID/Password, and it now switches on without asking for a Passcode.

Looks as if it is a Tesco PAYG SIM that has run out of credit.

Greg, would you actually be using an iPhone 4 which is now a Dinosaur compared with the 4S, 5S and C, and now the 6.
