Only choice, he was better for the whole of the second half of the season.
It will be interesting to see how he stacks up agains Alonso.....who is perhaps, the best all round driver in F1 just now( not the quickest though)

With a new engine manufacturer I think it was the best decision.
Just wondering how much influence Honda would have had on the decision especially with his long term standing with them (even though Ron would probably not admit they had any influence).
Will make it an interesting season comparing the 2 driver throughout the year, especially as Jenson knows how Honda work internally. I don't think it will happen but would make interesting politics if Jenson scores more points than Alonso next year - what would McLaren do then with Alonso??

Replace him with Magnussen?!
Great news, glad Jenson is staying.

Good to see that Jenson will be driving again next year, especially if McLaren can get back to the top once more. We do not want a Mercedes repeat.
It is a shame though that someone with Magnussen's talent will not have a drive at all, even with a team at the bottom end like Sauber.

From the fans point of view the Button / Alonso fight next year will be fantastic! Button will be desperate to beat Alonso and prove his value and Alonso might spit the dummy if the car and engine package is not up to scratch. If you compare Magnussens first year to Hamiltons, I wouldn't have retained him either.

Therein lies the problem; has anyone's first season lived up to Hamilton's?

With the amount of testing miles Hamilton had under his belt, I doubt anyone will match his debut season anytime soon.
I think McLaren have made the right decision retaining Button - Magnussen back to test driver for 2015, and possibly replace Alonso / Button if either leaves at the end of the year?
(Or might Vandoorne get a chance if he wins GP2 next year?)

Good news. I think button has been admirably dignified throughout all this. Ron Dennis on the other hand has looked a complete arse, and a weak indecisive arse at that

He speak with forked tongue then

The 'inside line' on several websites is that Dennis wanted Magnussen but he didn't have the authority to make the decision himself. It was decided by the whole McLaren board, no doubt with a good deal of input from Honda

I presume that he excluded the World Champion and runner up in his assessment.
