I am not normally one for retweeting (whatever that is) but I thought this worthy:

There have been some great cartoons in the mags and papers, especially in France, but I believe not many in the UK.

Unfortunately as Salman Rushdie found out, he will be in hiding for the rest of his life, Islamists do not have a great sense of humour. You really are chancing your life if you take Freedom of Speech as applying to the Muslim religion, the Prophet Muhammad is way out of bounds.

Supposedly a Banksy image, it appeared on his "unofficial" FB page....there have been some great cartoon works appear in the last 72 hours, and long may it continue

In Paris with work shortly, I can imagine a city in stress

Talk about over reaction, they have 30,000 police out, the two gunmen are holed up in a printing works in the country and looks as if they do not have hostages, six helicopters overhead so we will probably soon get a mid air collision, TWO runways shut down at Charles de Gaulle which is miles away, so that is causing chaos.

Send in a section of SBS or SAS, job over.

I hope they're captured alive. They don't deserve a speedy exit.

I would think that they will almost certainly top themselves to end up as Martyrs, can not see any way that they will be taken alive.

I think there is a good chance that they will not kill the hostage if they have one, more likely the police will do that. One of the printer workers actually met them inside and shook hands thinking that they were Police, but they told him to leave as they do not kill civilians. That probably meant you are safe as long as you do not work for a satyrical magazine.

You may think that I do not have much faith in the Police/Specialist Teams, but I could not possibly say that. However they are magnificent posers, and the rest of the Parisian criminal society are clear to do what they want at present, without fear of being caught.

I find this more disturbing.

Frankie also has a point, although his timing is typically Frankie.

It's supposed to be by French illustrator Lucille Clerc.

The "unofficial" post was hashtagged with #lucilleclerc

Explained in the comments on Joe's page, and here:

I find Russia's retreat back into the bad old ways depressing. 100 years after the Revolution and they are on the verge of recreating the dictatorship that was the Tsar system. How they can swing from dictatorship to communism and back without passing (and sticking at) a democracy is beyond me. I guess it's a cultural thing.
