Exige advice.

Post by tut » Tue Jan 27, 2015 7:54 am

A young friend of Lukes called around last night, he has a VX 220 which he is keeping to sell in the spring, but he wants to buy an Exige S around the £25K mark.

He has been to see the one at Murrays in Fraserburgh but I have warned him off it. He test drove it, pulls to the right, wanders especially over changes in surface, doors would not shut properly, kept bouncing back, car would not start, owner said it was out of fuel, but still problems when he put some in, tyres are cracked in the treads, too many warning signs to even contemplate it.

Found him this one which I don't think will be around for long, Special Edition with great spec, 260hp, and I love the colours. A lot of you have owned similar cars, so would be interested in your views. Private sale so I would try £26K if I was after it

Also one from SELOC.

Can't help on the advice front as I've never had one but that sprint is a thing of beauty! :thumbsup

My mate enquired about the Fraserburgh one. It is due a minor recall and said he would pay for an inspection at MMC when it was there. Seller wasn't keen on that so he passed on it.

First observation Tut is you have been thorough in your research. Bang for buck I think you have picked two very well priced cars for the spec.

Sprint: Only point on list is that I would ask is the JRZ dampers as most of us go with Nitrons. Don't know anything about them but someone on here will. Great spec - the colour scheme of the Sprint is personal (personally I love it!). Can't think of anything else I would ask other than for a test drive.

White S: Bargain price on face of it. Worth asking for an inside pic? Touring pack only, makes me think no harness hole seats, if that is in any way relevant for buyer. Check if it has air-con? Cant remember what pack that is associated with. Funny how many say it is a must in an Exige. Not is Scotland - never used mine.

I might be wrong but I think the Sprint is a dealer limited edition rather than a factory one, dont know if that will affect the value in any way and it is still a nice looking well specced car.

The Sprint is non-standard with the Komotec supercharger, JRZ suspension & other mods so might be an issue for insurance if he's young.

Brandon has a nice red one in, all three packs and 260hp upgrade, but £5K over budget.

2k price drop IIRC on that one too since initial listing.

Worth giving MMC a call as they are good at working up options to suit different budgets and they might be able to work a deal to suit?
They will also know if there is anything else available or iminent if they can't work figures on that particular one.

I think the first thing he needs to decide is his intentions with the Exige S. If he currently owns a VX220 then is it the power he's after? Is he planning to track it? Will he keep it OEM or modify it? Or does he just like the kudos of a Loti and plans to potter about?

The reason I ask is I had a 220S Touring and spent a small fortune in modifications (and trips to Essex) to improve the performance. I only stopped short of pulling the engine out.

Tut, thanks very much for your post!

Dark - unfortunately if the sprint has a non-standard supercharger, it would probably be un-insurable for me. :(

B12 ANR - intentions with the Exige S would be to keep it standard, again modifications would probably be a nightmare for me to insure. The Exige is a great looking car, which is why I've been drawn to it. Plan to potter about, however a track day in the future might be an option.

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated!

Andrew
