Jesus. That footage looks unreal doesn't it, not used to seeing planes at that angle so low.

Just awful.

Holy smoke. Would not have expected survivors from that.

Potential heroic politry to make it to the river?

I don't think banking the aircraft like that would have extended its glide path and was very violent - I suspect some control failure (in addition to whatever put it on that path in the first place).

I really feel for the families of that one - it's not many that have to watch the moments their friends and relatives died ... :-(

Crashed on its second attempt to land.

Weather and viz were said to be in limits for the landing, but there were storms in the area.

Stalled it maybe . Think the plane falls towards the dead side as the running engine creates more lift.

Will have to ask a driver what happens on eng failure.

On top of that if they lose one side you get a big torque effect which causes the plane to turn towards the dead engine. I think.

It's angle of attack right at the start of the film looks pretty high too?
It looks like a full on stall by the time it passes the motorway but I suppose we'll find out pretty soon, very sad either way.

Like Robin says though must be awful to have your loved ones last moments all over the news. RIP.

Hate sitting in the back when I want to be in the cockpit.

Pilots never really trust anyone other than themselves.

After engine failure they let it get below the blue line speed - a speed at which it was not possible to overcome asymmetric thrust and the rudder cannot overcome the yaw. Without altitude (and the option to reduce power on the good engine) recovery is not possible and yaw will develop into an incipient spin.

That's why single engined planes are safer - less chance of engine failure...

The odds of there being a bomb on your flight are 1 in 54 million. The odds of there being two bombs on your flight are 1 in 17 trillion. Therefore, always carry your own bomb.

That's the best use of statistics I've heard in years, made my morning :-)

Great story of a family of three that survived. The dad managed to get himself free and then got his wife and yound child free. His son wasn't breathing so he performed CPR and saved him. What a hero.

Feel for those less fortunate and of the poor families who will see the plane crash on the news.
