I know it would be fast but why would you put the worlds dullest engine into an Exige.

:P - In his defence having had the 2.2 in my VX, I have to say it wasn't that dull, and a load more torque than the K Series!

There is something about having an Audi engine in your Elise though admit it!

There's nothing dull about 360 bhp and 330 lb/ft in an Elise/Exige.

Granted it's not the most charismatic soundtrack in the world, but it's definitely nicer than a K bag of bolts :P

My point was that the VAG 1.8 turbo I assume the audi conversion is based on is just dull dull dull. I can see to logic of a VTEC conversion or even a supercharged VTEC but IMHO a turbo Audi lump (or even a VXT) misses out on most of the fun in our wee cars - the soundtrack, the throttle response, the romance, changing down for the sheer hell of it etc etc etc.

As any of you who have seen me at Knockhill or on a run will know..... I'm completely sh*t at driving even remotely fast but my car puts a MASSIVE grin on my face every time I drive it, even if i don't even get close to pushing the envelope. Yes a audi conversion would be fast but for me in these GATSO times we live in, that alone is not enough.

Anyone who's been in / behind my car (ITG and piper backbox) will tell you it makes a gorgeous noise and that to me is part of the fun.

I just can't imagine anyone jumping out of a TT and shouting "f*ck me i have to get one of them in my Elise"

Someone must agree with me .............

EDIT: And to think i was toying with going to Newcastle for my next service

You miss the point.... I'm not gonna start standing up for the K, because unless you're into engineering, all you see is the weaknesses and the real strengths of the engine are techno-twaddle

The VTEC is a remotely charismatic engine, yes. But the K, the Vauxhall and the Toyota are usually sh*t in anything else. It's the weight...

Strip the sound deadening and halve the weight (bear in mind a TT is what, 1600kg?) The turbo rush can be an addictive thing, the sound is a lot better without all of the deadening shyte in a VAG engine bay. Whack on that, a sports exhaust and you've got a screaming maniac, that sounds like a 1990 RS500 Touring Car....

Then you figure in the power. If you're honestly saying that you think 330 lb/ft of torque in an elise will be anything other than "holy fcuk!!" then I think you need a wee lie down....

FWIW, Elaine has the "dull dull dull" VAG turbo in her S3 and I find it a real hoot - not aurally, but for the sheer physics-defying stuff it can do with a heavy 4wd hatchback....

Bears the question, have you actually ever driven anything with a VAG 1.8T?

The K series reference was a wee joke, everyone knows that it is a great little light engine and you only have to see how much of a problem lotus, caterham et all are having replacing it to know that. I prefered the charactistics of the 2.2 vaux so i bought that over an ST elise. I admit this means most people on here think I'm an idiot but i'll struggle on

I've driven a TT and a golf with the 180bhp 1.8 turbo and as I said aurally it does nothing for me. That was my point. It's a propulsion device, and it's brutally effective but IMHO it's not a charasmatic engine. it doesn't grab you the way an alfa four pot, audi five or even a VTEC does. I'm not against turbos per say but you have to admit they do blunt the responsiveness a wee bit.

I'm sure a properly mapped VAG turbo that's been "let off the leash" is an amazing thing at flinging you down the road but as I said it wouldnt be my first choice for a wake up on a sunday morning blast.

Taken to it's logical conclusion a Veyron would be amazing, but i'd have the Zonda, Carrera GT or Enzo every time. 8)

I understand what you're saying now you have clarified it a bit and I certainly wasn't slagging the VX. But have you driven a Vectra with the same engine. They don't sound that great.

I think you may change your mind if you drove an Audi Elise.

p.s. Feel free to come down for a service. I don't charge for the banter. :thumbsup
