Apologies, but does anyone know anything about MGF's??

Post by Andy G » Mon Oct 09, 2006 3:21 pm

Hi Guys

The GF has decided she fancies an MGF, and despite loving my Elise, doesn't want to spend that much on a new car. Add that to the fact her 8 stone Alsatian will be riding shotgun, and he isn't kind to interiors!!

Is looking at an MGF (used, and about £3.5k) and wondered if anyone had any experience of them?

I've driven one round KH on one of their track day things, but thats about it.

cheers

I'd buy an MX5 in place of an MGF.

My finace has a mk1 1.8 and she loves it, it's (touch wood) been reliable and it does good old fashioned drifts if you want it too.

It's cheap enough to run and insure, the boot's not tiny, the roof doesn't leak, there's no HGF worry, the engine is a non-contact effort so if the cambelt snaps there's no damage (why aren't they all like that?!) and it's basically a proper sports car.

Should get a decent mk1 for anything from £1,500 to £4k.

A girl at work has just sold an MGF - thought it was scary lethal in the wet as did her b/f and he's a 'biker.

What he said, but if she has her heart set on an MG the TF is a much better car and well worth the extra few quid. Not a bad car at all to be honest.

She's actually got an old mx5 at present, but seems really keen on the MGF.

I was trying to persuade her to get an S1, but her dog will kill it

the MGF is more ropey than 100 ropes tied together with rope, a better idea would be to take the cash and set fire to it. Just mho of course, but i wouldnt go near them :)

I think from V reg onwards they had BMW influence and build QA and were much better put together from what I've heard.

I've drove an N reg one and thought it was not a bad little car, though would personally keep the mx5.

Btw Andy I think I saw your Smart car in the Sainsbury's car park yesterday evening?

Andy, remember the Hambo buggy on Sunday (How the hell could you have forgotten already!). Well, it is two metro front sub-frames welded together, so engine mounted in the rear.

An MGF is the same thing   . Two metro sub frames welded together! Think of it as a MG Metro cut & shut soft top :puke (without the engineering talent of Hambo)
