Stupid Mac

Any mac experts got an answer to this...

We have an old MBP which is running Lion and it is presently listed on eBay.. So prior to sending it off to its new owner I neeed to wipe the HDD - no problem, boot into a maintenance mode and then it is supposed to go online and get a fresh copy of Lion.

But it doesn't, I get an error message "this item is temporarily unavailable" - and it seems I am not alone. The fora are littered with the same probelm and I can't find an answer. In an ideal world I would simply use the USB copy of Lion I bought but I can't find it. I can't seem to download anything other than Mavericks which of course this Mac won't run.

I know hee haw about macs, am I missing something?

Format it from Disk Utilities and the new owner can boot up and start from scratch.

Thanks folks, I've phoned the Apple store and they are sorting it out.

Both good plans!

Woohoo the Apple store are lovely people although I doubt they are genii and a surprising number of them sport a variety of extraordinary beards and colourful tattoos.

The one I had to organise repairing the screen on one of the offspring's MBA was incapable of addition or VAT calculations. It makes you feel for the poor guys that work in there that are not good enough to be a genius .. I asked one of them to explain what his job was .. he said his job was to stand there and help people ... right, can you go check if my mac is ready for collection .. no, you'll need a genius for that ... sigh.
