Scottish Elises

So it appears that it's not just those in Oil & Gas that have been on the receiving end of redundancies. Found out recently that my job is also at risk, which is the polite precursor to losing it. This is nothing short of a disaster; I quite literally cannot be jobless, not least because of the obvious priorities of wife/daughter/house etc.

As such I am looking for something new. I'm 33 and am currently working as a Contracts Manager for a Facilities Services company in Aberdeen, with a background in customer service and retail. I know everyone says it, but I'm extremely hard working, innovative and bright and I learn very quickly. If anyone on here knows of anything that may be suitable, or indeed is looking to recruit someone from outside their usual pools, I'd very much appreciate a look in. I can provide CV and cover letter on request.

Sorry to hear that guys. The O&G is in a sad state and very upsetting each time you hear of someone else being let go or put at risk. Shame if itis now affecting other business streams. I really hope your situation improves and sorts itself out.

I've been made redundant twice in the last 6 years... On both occasions I looked at it as getting a new job... I got up and started work at 9 and finished at 5:30 working as my own personal recruitment consultant. Went through my network first then started just googling companies I might like to work for and calling the MD etc. organisation, follow ups and patience were key. Took 6 weeks to get something the first time that was about 2009 so market was smashed. The second time round it took less than 3 weeks. That was 3 years ago. So my advice, and I know it's hard as you take it personally, is to have a belief in your skills and become your own recruitment agent then work hard at it. If you were recruiting who would you rather hear from? a motivated candidate or a recruitment agent? You'll be fine.

That's good advice, thanks mate the agencies I'm with just now don't seem that interested anyway so maybe I should do it myself

Great advice! Similarly i've been made redundant three times now, each time it's been a monumental kick in the plums but it's always worked out in the end.

Regarding LinkedIn, it's now the main source of candidates for our recruitment team, so well worth getting that profile polished and getting the endorsements you need. There's a thread on here to instantly add the whole of SE to your profile !
