Got Me

Sure this is not the first time this has been posted.
Got done on the way home tonight. 98 in a 70 (Dual Carriageway). Was on my own and then all of a sudden got a black Volvo estate with blues on behind me.
I have no previous driving convictions to my name.
Thoughts on possible outcome? I wasn't issued with a fixed notice which I suspect is due to the speed and the fact that I will be reported to the PF.
Cheers
Danny

3 to 6 points and a heavier fine. £200 to £400 is my guess.

I got 4 points and £400 fine for 89 in a 60 some time ago, so similar differential. I already had 6 points. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Best of luck - I think the treatment can vary wildly but I think 6 points and a big fine is the worst you should expect; you could be lucky and get off with 3 points and a 60 (or is it now 90) quid fine.

Not ideal and no excuse for speeding so will accept my punishment. Hopefully a few points and a fine will be all I get.

Exactly the same as mine some years ago Danny, just a shame that you did not know the speed bands.
Up to 95 in most Counties is a straight three points and £100, 95-100 is a special band, no fixed NIP but a Court appearance and in my case 5 points and £150, above 100 is dangerous driving, Court case with you trying to get it downgraded to careless.

I got done at 97 on the dualler out of Ellon in the Porsche. Trafpol said it was 1mph over his allowance for a fixed penalty, so a trip to court was in order. This was with a laser gun mind you, only you know the standard of your driving that might be on tape if he was following you which will all go in the file that goes to court.
Anyway...
I sent a letter in instead of turning up - so long as you can format a letter properly, stick to the facts, get to the point without waffle and most importantly acknowledge your mistake and show you have both reflected on it and learned something then that's all they want to hear. I got 5 points and £480 fine - I was expecting worse.
Good luck. It'll probably be 2-3 months before it is done and dusted.
Phil.

Sorry to hear Danny, it's an awful feeling when you realise you're caught, I got three points last year for 80 something on the dueller. I'd gone to Edinburgh and back bang on the speed limit, left Aberdeen heading north, empty road at 1am, floored it then noticed a red Audi catching me up, bummer!

They are fairly out in force at the moment, I'm sure I heard there is a campaign running. It's a horrible gut wrenching feeling when you get caught! your notice with intent to prosecute (nip) was served at the roadside, they told you your they are notifying the PF, expect a large brown envelope through the door in the next three months with a court appearance.
Been there myself, providing the police statement is good (says phrases like dry clear roads, well lit/good visibility and light traffic) plead guilty to the lesser charge (speeding opposed to dangerous driving) and submit an mitigation statement by post acknowledging you were wrong and eat humble pie.
You can hire a solicitor and attend court but IMO it's not worth it, you will likely get a lesser penalty (say 1/2less points or a reduction on the fine maybe £1-200less) but your out a days wage/holiday and the fees for a decent solicitor and you run the risk of getting your picture in the paper if it's a slow news day so it's not always best attending in person pleading by letter can be better in some cases.
Realistically you are looking at 4-6 points and a decent fine, the fines are means tested where you tell them how much disposable income and savings you have and they offer a fine and payment plan to suit so it depends on that.
Best of luck, hope they don't come down too hard on you.

They ran a sweepstake on mine.
I reckon 5 points and £400, they don't know what your disposable income is so make it up, I paid at £100/month. On the other hand Aberdeen Court could be a bigger bunch of barsteward than the normal run of the mill bloodsuckers.

Sorry to hear Danny. Dreading that inevitable day. Hope it all works out as good as can be.

It's a rubbish feeling, but yeah, there is some crackdown happening at the mo so I guess everyone should keep their peepers open.
Many moons ago, I was 4 points and £360 for a similar level over the limit.

I got 3 points and 100 pounds for 47 in a 30 (yards before a motorway sliproad).
They're out in force... y'all be careful.

About 7 years ago I did 102mph in a 70. Fine was £600 and 6 points. Not dangerous driving (or automatic ban as so many people seem to say!) but it didn't happen in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire.
I expect you will get something a little less severe. I will try and be careful would not like to be caught on the dueller / motorway. Good luck.

Also worth noting for the Aberdeen and shire guys, if you are doing over 80 in the 50mph roadworks Aberdeen-Ellon they are giving dangerous driving. A mate got pulled at 11pm at 82 with no workforce nearhand.
