I think the old top gear was just a bit over played when it got sold on to Dave and you never knew if it was going to be a repeat or not. Having watched the second episode of the new series, I'd say it's an improvement.

Last night's episode was better again.

When I watched the older top gear (Clarkston et al) having recorded it, I would usually fast forward the "Star in a reasonably priced car" section. It would usually be about 8 to 10 mins long. Did the same last night, it was 18 minutes! That takes up a good chunk of the show. Have to say, it seemed like a much better watch for fast forwarding that section!

I think you missed a great part of the show then Dominic. Was certainly the funniest part of the show and one of them put in a pretty good lap, top of the board.

I agree steadily getting better. Chris Harris outclassed them all tho his style totally conveys his inner petrolhead kid. The others just seem a bit contrived. But last nights was enjoyable the previous 2 were a bit cringe worthy.

The filmed pieces are to my mind the best bits- the studio stuff is trying to be 'old TG' and is guff. I reckon the least experienced presenter is by far the best - Rory Reid and Matt LB holds the segments together ok. Chris Evans should stick to Radio 2.

Yeah actually sat and watched it with my daughter last night and it was definitely better. mr Block must have worked hard to get all the permissions he must have needed for that London segment...

Was thinking that, Pete. How much red tape to shoot a few mins of joining?

Did the same on your advice Dom, who in the BBC thinks nearly 20 mins of celeb chat is what the viewers want?

Reid and Harris bits were ok, Le Blanc studio chats are mind blowingly cringy but decent in the films. Evans is pish.

I really enjoyed this weeks one, especially the TDF bit with Chris Harris. Less of Chris Evans shouting definitely improved things.

I turned it off last night..... Chris Harris obviously was an epic segment in the Vulcan, after that it was pretty much gash so I switched it off, Sabine is just a tad wooden for TV lol and Eddie Jordan, cringe... Not for me.... for ultimate viewing figures, give Chris Harris his own programme hooning various super cars on road and track :thumbsup

I quite enjoyed the show. It seems like the presenters are gradually settling into their roles. Agree,Chris Harris is good. The road trip did not work so well as their were too many characters in it. Also seemed to lack challenges along the way,.. wonder if some were cut out.

Stig intro was amusing..... Brexit is a laxative :damnfunny

Yeah - was okay. Vulcan piece was one of the best shot things that TG has ever done, in any incarnation.

The road trip was meh - you get the impression the last three would have made that a comedy section in a full-on last of the summer wine vein - for better or worse. As it was, it was set up for some shenanigans that never happened. The chemistry is lacking, but I'm still watching. It's better than 95% of the rest of what's on, plus I'm very conscious it's been thrown together so far to meet a lot of requirements at very short notice. I do not envy Chris Evan's position in what he's had to do... Hopefully it gets a chance to mature and the team get freedom to mould and change it to get to a place where it works.
