The thing is, you could see the amount of themselves that they put into the original Elise. This is what it was all about. They developed a completely new way of manufacturing the chassis, light as a feather, glued together, all the principals of Chapman himself.

They came up with MMC brake discs and pads, half the weight of steel, and good for 50K miles. Ferrari and Porsche are only now offering updated versions as a £10K option.

Julian Thompson completely oposed the rear lip as it spoilt the line, but it was needed for downforce. He fought to keep it below 700K, and almost managed it.

They had a dedicated team of engineers and designers that worked together, and put their heart into it, and came out with one of the all time classic sports cars.

Read all the reviews of sports cars since, including the Elise variants, and they will inevitably come back to the virtues of the original Elise, even with all of its almost laughable 118hp.

Which of course would take it to 60 in 5.8 secs, and leave most cars in its wake on road and track, as long as it was below 110 tuts.

Mine is probably the worst example in the world to actually behold at the moment, but I think she still looks great, and as an all rounder on both road and track, there is little to touch her.

From what I have seen through photos, N1TUT definitely has character! I think that even with the less than favourable aesthetics she has got to be everything that Lotus aimed for it to be - a serious track/road car that is not just garage jewellery. (even though Thompson was flapping about the spoiler!)
On saying that, i have to agree with you that she still looks great - a car with a colourful history that suits you down to a tee!

downloaded it. took 2 hours, and now i can't play it. windows media player said this when i tried

I think you need to download Google Video's own client video player.

or alternatively you can go here for the codecs.

Or you can use the Firefox plugin to download the flash video and use the free flash video player to play it.

Or nab it from my FTP in its full 2.2GB glory!
