Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
Not wishing to sway the electorate but I'm really keen to encourage people to try out Tapatalk if you haven't already. Whilst the initial setup can be fiddly, once you've got SE in there, it makes it a doddle to stay connected on-the-go, on phones or tablets. The pc is being fast overtaken, after all!
Also, are there other forum-client apps which compete?
I've noticed lower traffic and chatter over the last year or two and wonder if we help people bring the community into the latest techno age, it will bring the buzz back a little?

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
Must admit I find myself browsing seloc more and more as it's more active, sadly forums are dead the natural replacement is facebook although that's not the best. I'm sure there are other platforms available I might invest some time as I've similar problems with a squash club I've joined in that it's a nightmare to organise games and chats etc. I'm frustrated to the point I might try and get on the committee to fix it.

Does SELOC support Tapatalk?

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
Can't do the poll on tapatalk.

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
I had some version issues with tapatalk and during that I started using the 'unread posts' feature. Have that bookmarked and don't seem to need much else.
Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
tapatalk works very well for me, very mobile friendly and as campbell points out.. a piece of pish to setup

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
I find seloc mobile site less hassle than tapatalk to be honest.
Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
So what do we need to drive some more traffic and interaction chaps and chappesses?
SE specific track session diary - makes things more inclusive and people can travel further afield with people they know
Ladies SE track nights - We did this a long time ago and was successful
North, East & West curry nights - pretty sure theses are already in flight and get good attendance
Bring some of the chatter here rather than other forums/mediums?
Suggest some phpBB upgrades? Overhaul? Anyone want to help Simon?
Ressurect the Edin/Gla Beers thread again?
This is a great community just needs some effort now and again.

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
Tapatalk for me on here.. works great imho, particularly the unread feature.
Don't like seloc mobile and it doesn't support tapatalk so only tend to browse there on the desktop.
Christmas beers always seemed to go well in the past ..

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
It could do with a little spring cleaning. There are several pinned posts lying around that are very out of date.Sanjoy wrote:So what do we need to drive some more traffic and interaction ?

I'm not a fan of this but some of the Facebook groups promote members adding a link to their group in their dig when in other forums.
I didnt want to ask for any modernisation as I know how time sucking that can be for the generous folk who run the site. Not sure it needs it. Maybe mobile device compatible smilies...that would be it.
The ladies track night is a great idea.
You can't blame or expect to control people for having conversations in other mediums. Having isolated discussions won't bring new people in though.
Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
All being read intently - will obviously leave this running for a week or so before any action to gauge opinions - some good stuff so far.
In terms of the Poll - what's interesting to me is how many people browse using their phone on the web browser version - I'm not the biggest tapatalk fan, but it was the clunkiness of the phpBB interface on a mobile device that made me sign up to it (we don't have control how the forum appears on mobile, incidentally - it's a pretty standard phpBB install we use for the forum with a few plugins)
Traditionally, our method of appealing to new members has been pretty gentle - most forums are not locked to non-members, so the intent is to give people the ability to see what's going on and sign up to contribute if they want to. In contrast to the traditional forum architecture of hide most stuff behind a membership wall so you force people into signing up to read. Of course, this was all done before Facebook took off, before we had so many competing social networks, so as they have grown more popular, the more old school social network functionality of the forum has suffered.

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
I find the mechanics of the Forum to be fine for me, being at home most of the time it is ideal for me on my laptop, whereas even with the largest mobile phone display it is too small to be comfortable.
However if I do go onto S_E when I am out I have no problem reading or popping off a short post, but normally have to enlarge. I do though forget about tapatalk and just use a browser as normal.

Think there is a general trend for Internet content to be requested more and more via handheld devices than "computers" now. I rarely use the desktop browser version of SE. Except to respond to polls, which Tapatalk doesn't yet support
