Exactly!

I'm going to ask my local Tesco to move their pet food section to a different part of the shop, as I don't have any pets, and I might accidently walk down it one day which would really ruffle me up..

Fair enough.

I know I'm not alone in spending less time on here these days when every second post is Thinfourth ranting about Sturgeon though. Just sayin.

If it was easier to add threads to an ignore feature.. would be a nicer place to be imho.

Same nonsense going on over on SELOC too... they're trying the separate sub forum for religion and politics, but that works well with their Today's Post feature and the fact you choose what forums appear.

You could just not post on this thread if you don't agree with our views. :thumbsup

Sounds like an ideal way to promote healthy debate...

I think the issue is not so much threads on politics... as much as the volume of them and the entrenched positions people take. So there is only shouting and no actual debate in the end. That's tedious... especially when the majority of chats on here used to be about friendly car stuff etc.

I never said I disagreed with anyone's views, the opposite in a way given I'm one of those saying we shouldn't restrict a particular type of forum post (within reason) just because a few get irked by them, when having to read them is a completely optional process, and this is a "forum"..

Anyway, I'm sure you've got 17 cars or so to play with / fix / sell by now, so perhaps you should concentrate on those Stu.. :thumbsup

My comment was not supposed to be taken seriously just like you are not going to be going to Tesco to ask them to remove he pet isle.

No I was actually thinking of doing that.. Far too much floor space is being used up when 2 or 3 varieties of pet food could be made available which would cover everything! People don't keep dolphins and tigers (this isn't Dubai after all!), so having a full double isle only serves to distract me from other meaningless browsing of unhealthy food brands..

As there is a >1 member interest in such a function (going back to the thread title) I've asked our esteemed tech admin (Ironside) to take a look and see if it's feasible.

Bear in mind though, that the no.1 goal of the forum is to be as robust as possible and it's run on the goodwill and hosting of our tech admin, so if there's a risk a plugin would break anything, or if it's likely to be too involved an install, we'll have to deal with the forums software as is.

Fair enough?

Given that most of the time everyone disagrees with Dave wouldn't just be easier to bar him, problem solved

Loving this. Having a debate about a debate, lol.

My view is a sub-forum for politics is a mistake.

If people don't want to follow a thread, don't click on it. If the glow of the "unread posts" mini-icon is too much of a draw, then...well they need to work on their self-discipline.

This is not a democracy. It's a Liberal Dictatorship. (I was once told :-) )

Lots of space to talk about cars and other things here (including politics). Just need to keep it fair and decent, no matter what the subject...politics, Skodas, taxes, recipes, nice drives, engine choices, whatever.

An update on the ignore thread function as well folks.

Investigation into the latest version of the board shows it's not native (the best option to keep a vanilla install) so that's not a goer.

Any third party plugins that offer the functionality appear to be old/non-supported/dead.

Afraid at this stage, the "ignore thread" function isn't a possibility for our forum. Something SELOC have, and I agree it's great, but it's slightly easier when your forum admin wrote the software from scratch himself.

Sorry - I did hope we could implement, not technically feasible for now.
