I think I'm in love with an 18 year old

Post by Kinger » Sun Feb 12, 2017 4:47 pm

Aye, I thought that might get your attention.

Of course its my new S1 Type 49 Elise, what a stunner. The car is a true credit to Phil who has looked after the car for the last 14 years. I didn't think I'd ever find a replacement which was a nice as my old 111s. Well this one is truly amazing, I only found out about it when Phil phoned to ask me about my old Evora as he considering buying it. Phil mentioned he might be selling his type 49, Phil sent me loads of it photographic history so a flight was booked to go down to Manchester to view it. The second Phil opened the garage door I knew I had to have it, unbelievable condition for an 18 year old car.

I brought it back up the road yesterday through much snow and heavy rain, it was absolutely "mingin" when I got home so it was up early to get it back to its best before I took the hired trailer back. I managed to get out for a wee run in the sun, yip I am in love again. :D

So to it sounds like Phil and I have done a bit of "wife swopping", as I've now got his Ex and He's now got my Ex

Great to see my ex settled in her new home Graham, I still can't quite believe the distance you were prepared to travel to first view and then collect her, especially given the less than favourable conditions here yesterday. I hope you have many happy adventures with her, I certainly did and she never let me down once in all the 13 years I had her.
Your ex is fab too :D

Congrats Graham, it looks lovely. It's impossible to keep up with your car habit at the moment. I think you might have a problem!

It's the prettiest of the special S1s, I like the red wheel, did they all have that?

Yip That's me on No 8 now and I've loved them all.

I know the Cup won't be a keeper but looking forward to taking it to Spa, Zolder, Dijon and Ledenon over the summer.
That said who knows what will replace it, or as retirement is looming I may just keep the S1 and get back to only having one Lotus, now that would please Lesley. The Cup may even turn into a Rangie or an XC90 for towing the van !!!!!!!

For driving pleasure nothing beats the S1. they might not be the fasted but so rewarding for driving pleasure. I compared video footage at Zandvoort of the white V6 and the 111s, the V6 was faster but I enjoyed the S1 way more, even managed to hang on to cars with over 100hp more power.

That's sounds like I should start writing the Advert for the Cup now

Is it the 111s engine (vvc)? Has the wheels but not the boot spoiler? Either way stunning car to have and sounds like the Cup is already on its way out

I'm holding out for when my 1st car comes back on sale to the guy who bought it in Belgium back in 2003. It goes to Spa regularly... here's a photo

Hi James,

It's not the VVC model, however Phil has had some Head work done by Kiwi Rog, 4/2/1 Manifold, Emerald and few other tasteful engine mods done. The result is a few more Ponies than my standard 111s. It feels really responsive, I'm hoping I can still have fun on track with Uncle Ron  .

Your old 111s looks lovely, I was totally gutted when mine was written off. I'd never been that attached to any car previously.

Get in there Graham!!!! :D

I was well disappointed to hear about your 111s incident as we have had some great trackdays out on track in our two old S1's over the past couple of years.

Really pleased to hear about your new purchase and am not surprised to hear your chat on it being a keeper as they are hard to beat for so many reasons.....

Are you looking to take it to the Knockhill SIDC day on 25th March? Time to get that bad boy out there!

S1's will be playing again at KH on the 25th March, I've allocated all of the allowable trackday's for the "Cup" to the Frolic and Spa/Zolder trip.

I'll save the S1 for UK trips and trackdays. Let the fun continue :D
