Medical update.

Blood test, breathing machine, X-Ray, Lung Specialist yesterday. Lovely "Goodness Gracious Me" lassie.

Finally some concrete information. "As you are under 60 you could be considered for a lung transplant". Er check my birthdate not my boyish face.

"Oh dear, in that case you may be able to go on a course of the drug that has now been UK approved, I will arrange a consultation with my Aberdeen colleague and pass on my findings to him". I asked her what her own opinion was, ie would I see the year through, and she said that after talking to me she saw no reason that I would not see the decade through as patients were so variable.

However not sure if that was based on clinical evidence or feel good factor. Bottom line is that at least I now have something to work on and I can look at getting the drive repaired.

Proof of the pudding though will be how everyday breathing goes.

If that does not nose dive then I will be pretty optimistic. Good news is that the drug course is oral so no need to be hooked up to machines, just into Hospital monthly for check overs. I have to reach a certain level on the extended breathing tests to pass the criteria they work on for the drugs to be effective. Will get back onto the breathing exercises I used to use for diver training, I may be able to expand the lungs a bit in preparation.

The best part was being able to give Verian and the kids some better news for a change. Clare needs me to be there for our new grandaughter in July.

sh*t Tut, I was not aware of your ongoing issues to be honest... you looked happy as at the breakfast meet earlier this month. Thought you were well on road to recovery post heart op. Anyhow, some better news is always good and look forward to seeing you around on future meets and track days of course. Take it easy but not that easy of course that you dont drive the Elise :damnfunny :thumbsup

Tut, PM, I am in the medical profession. Hopefully maybe able to shed some light on things, and can speak to some of the thoracic guys at work, when I know what the issue is.

sorry to hear about your condition. A mate of mine has exactly the same thing. he was given 4 or 5 years 4 years ago. latest check up showed no deterioration over the last few years so it does seem very variable and with the new drugs, maybe not the show stopper it once was. good luck with the treatment

Cheers guys, next step is to see whether they will accept me on the drugs program when I go for a lung capacity assessment on the 21st.

KH on the 25th so looking forward to that, N3 is with Monty at present for its annual medical but should be back next week.
