When you want a car Jim you really want a car ! Really admire your commitment to the project. Agree with Campbell, really interesting thread :)

Another update. It's all getting a bit more exciting now. Lots of progress over the past few weeks but it's mainly been detail stuff and sorting out the wiring loom and electrics. My understanding is that the bodywork is all complete as well but to avoid any damage it's not being fitted till after the engine is all up and running properly. I've spec'ed the interior trimming already so it may be off to the trimmers by the end of the month... err.. or the next... or the next ...

However....

The car is heading off on Friday down to to SCS Delta in Norfolk for a week to be mapped on the rolling road. I did zoom into one of the pics showing the dash and can see that that there's a label and switch for "sports mode" where the plan is to have a selectable map for pops and bangs and maybe even flames :)

Hopefully more pics and video soon from the mapping sessions. Vroom Vroom

Its looking really great and good to see that progress has been made. Looking at exhaust I think you have the shortest silencers possible :)

Your probably entering the most frustrating part where the car is coming together, you can practically see a complete car but its not quite there yet.

However hoping you won't have too long to wait. Would be interesting to see what the dyno runs make?

That looks great! Am I the only one who thinks it looks really good without the body panels?...

that exhaust looks close to the driveshaft (boot)

Jim, the hot bit that comes out the engine and goes to the back of the car on the drives side looks close to the spinny bit that joins the wheel to the engine (gearbox)

All that is deliberately engineered in Italianness for full authenticity. A frikkin nightmare to get it right apparently, especially the electrical ‘features’

Cracking build thus far Jim can’t wait to see the finished article.

Haha.. are you taking the pi$$ out of an easy target or have you just perfectly identified your audience? :blackeye

So... to solve the issue should I move the drivers seat to the other side?

I forgot to update this bit (for anyone still awake or interested)

One of the delays in my car coming together has been the fact that LB have been making new moulds for the bodywork. That timing has been a bit frustrating but the end result will be well worth the wait and the finish will be perfect. I'm also going for the "square arch" bodywork that was used on the later Group 4 rally cars and this is the last one of the 3 styles of bodywork to be reworked.

The 3 body styles offered by LB were

1. the Stradale or Street version which had narrow arches and was the shape of the original 497 cars offered for sale to homologate the race cars :

2. The Group 4 "round arch" version which was the original competition shape

3. Group 4 "square arch" version which was the shape of the later cars in competition

I think that back in the day, the rally cars all stated off with the GP4 round arch bodywork which came from a different prodution mould from that used for the Stradale body. As time progressed and the bodywork of the rally cars suffered from the inevitable damage it became easier and cheaper for teams and privateers to take the standard rear Stradale bodywork from the original production line and simply convert it to wide body rally use by whacking on the arch extensions to accommodate the wider track and wheels.

Interestingly (well, perhaps interestingly) the car I'm replicating is Pinto's Number 4 car from the 1977 Tour de Corse which ran with the square arches while the sister car driven by Sandro Munari, car number 1, ran in the same rally with round arches. I always liked the more brutal rear look of the square arch cars.

Anyhow... progress pics of things taking shape...

I should have pics and video of the rolling road mapping soon.

It's all coming together.

Like a 4 year old girl with the latest my little pony on the way from prime!

Looks tremendous. When it arrives and you’re looking for excuses to drive it you can just do a tour of SE members homes to show it off!
