12hr round trip to catch up with everyone to see and hear the car as it's progressing. Crikey.. it looks ace. I even sat in it and made proper vroom vroom noises using the accelerator. It was a bit intimidating actually!!

It sounds ace as well!! I took a few videos clips but most of them were spoiled by the sound of me cackling like an excited schoolboy so this one will have to do. My little iPhone was struggling to film the flames shooting out the back. Fortunately Wendy has a better phone so when I get it home I'll get her to stand closer and get some proper video of it. Being honest, the real life sound is far better than the video.

I've got some info graphs and paperwork to shuffle through but the feedback from the rolling road was all really positive.

In terms of numbers we're looking at 296.3 BHP with the rev limiter set to 7200rpm

However that's with the engine mapped for standard unleaded 95 RON fuel so there's a bit more to be had with Super Unleaded or the higher octane stuff like V-Power at 99 RON. Being Scottish and tight fisted I opted for standard fuel for the initial set-up.

That's also using the standard Alfa GTA cams on the engine which I'm led to believe are, relatively speaking, fairly mild. At the moment I'm minded to wait till the car is registered and on the road and then fit some re-profiled fast-road piper cams before taking it home which should bump things up by another 15-20BHP. I'll take Craig at LB's advice on that but we did chat about it and there was an instant appeal. I know it's all pub-talk in terms of numbers and I'll hardly ever drive it in anger but at the moment it's a thought.

It would then need to go back to SCS be re-mapped and if I'm feeling flush might do that with V-Power.

I'm also going to get the exhaust manifolds camcoated. I'm not sure if there would be temperature issues in the Statos or not. It's certainly an issue in the Ultima but it's easier to do it now than later and I'll probably get them done when the body is off being trimmed. As much as I quite fancy red or white or gold coating, I'm going to be boringly practical and go for black.

It's been so long since I sat in one that I was also back to having 2 hands on the ground to get out.

Well, no real progress to report at the moment.
Apparently I'm still going to the trimmers "in a couple of weeks"

We have taken another set of GTA cams and boxed them up to sent to Pipercams to have them reprofiled. They were given the full spec of the engine and the dyno stuff and asked to come up with suggestions for a safe and healthy bhp increase of around 20bhp. Still waiting to get the details of how that's going.



Only other "progress" is that after a bit of haggling with Zircotec I've decided to go with them rather than camcoat and have the full system done in black like the originals.

What's the disk on the end of the second cam? I assume it drives some ancillary but what?

Encoded on the front face you can't see. Oversized encoders like that are for cylinder identification. Each cylinder has a different encoded pattern, hence the need for a bit more space on the face, hence the oversize encoder wheel. With cylinder ID, the ECU knows sooner where where the cam is in it's rotation. It doesn't have to wait a full rotation to work out position from pulse angles. Result of that is that it can crank in just 180 degrees. Needed for smooth and instant stop-start. I think this is becoming much more common.

Not sure what it's doing on an old lump like that... I thought it was a new thing. I guess there's nothing new.

Or it's something else entirely.
