New Tesla

Post by pete » Fri Nov 17, 2017 11:59 am

I'm not a fan of the looks of the existing ones, I thin they are a bit generic, but this looks OK.

Quite fast...

First ones will be $250,000
Somehow I'd rather have a Cup 430 and GT430 plus change.

Depending on the drive train it may well have the ability of 4 wheel drive and independent 4 wheel traction control. Couple that with an electric motors ability to generate 100% of it's torque from standstill will make this a serious bit of kit. Just look how quick the model S can be if you throw the big battery pack at it.
That being said it will be heavy and have a lot of batteries. Can't see any of the tracks installing chargers anytime soon, but we were all fairly cynical about the original Tesla roadster and look what that spawned.
For sure we are in the twilight years of the internal combustion engine, Tesla just launch the HGV concept and the figures for that are impressive.

How low can 0-60 times get before you break the driver :scratch

Bit of wiggle room yet

"So, with that in mind, let’s set 30g as our limit for zero-injury acceleration. A car capable of that could get from 0-60 MPH in 0.091 seconds. If we’re willing to accept some cracked ribs and lost fillings, we can get that down to 0.078 seconds, and if we think we can do anything John Stapp could do, let’s say 45g, then we can be as quick as 0.061 seconds to 60 MPH."

Remember you have to be able to keep your hands on the steering wheel and your foot welded to the bulkhead. I think at 30G you'll be squashed against the rear window <BG>

Acceleration is still limited by tyre grip.

250k is, arguably, cheap for the amount of tech you are getting....

I've said it before and i'll say it again

Go drive an electric car

It will make anything with an internal combustion engine seem like something from the stoneage

Wether you prefer the stoneage is an entirely different argument
Landrover 90 = Muddy shed spec
Fiat panda = Couldn't care less spec
Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec
Kubota F1900 = Snowplough spec

We are Tesla's 3rd largest shareholder. One of the most asked about holdings; some get it, some don't. Purely from an interest in automotive technology (i.e. not a recommendation to invest etc.), here is another company we are investing in who are involved with Formula E. Nice website too - check out the EP9.
