Timber Garages - any recommendations

Hi,

I'm looking at realising a dream and finally getting a garage next year. I like the idea of a timber garage for looks, price and warmth.

Any recommendations of suppliers (I'm in Glasgow)? Both for the garage itself and concrete base.

Also keen to hear any advice, tips and experiences of timber garages.

I'm thinking of something like this but with an electric door and about 6m by 4m.

My advise:
1) Don't build a single, x1.5 width minimum.
2) Sectional doors are much better than up & over
3) Maximise the roof space, great for storage
4) Make sure it has power & water
4) Why wood? They all get cold!

I don't have much garden space (in the city) so 6m by 4m is about the biggest it could reasonably be. Still I think 4m is reasonable for width.

Re sectional doors - why are they better than up and over? What about roller doors?

Sectional doors encroach into the garage much less as you open them. And you can also park right up to the outside of the garage door - whereas an up and over will swing out about 50cm as you open it - which can be a right PITA.

If you want to make a job of it then i suggest building a base in brick then building in 6 x 2 timbers with a decent shiplap board this will be way more Clyde built than anything you can buy out of shed places. I built my own this year bringing it up to 100 meters now oh yes , your welcome to have a look i've actually covered mine in wire lathe and rendered it. As a builder i have built loads of garages if you need any advice on pricing or construction im happy to help. Will try to post some previous jobs.

We built a 6 x 4 m cabin this year from Dunster House.

Would totally recommend them.. Quality was good, Delivery was fuss free.. all the required bits were there with a couple of spares and the instructions were reasonably clear.

Get a local bricky to build you the base. then buy the Garage and put it up yourself... really not hard. (or Dunster House can put it up for you).

I once considered this for a council plot. Great tips there!

Shall bookmark for future ref (the need has passed for now...)

Looking to do the same but 6m x 6m which which give me enough for my two TVRs

Sorry but the little Elise will have to stay outside.

Just need to sort out about a base then order one and erect it myself

For the base, did think about build brick for the garage to sit on and infill wither concrete to make the internal floor.

Any ideas how much the base would cost to construct ?

Thanks

6 x6 base will be about £1000 worth of materials obviously more for labour and skips.
