Aw man sorry to hear this Campbell. The old girl did bloody well and was well used and enjoyed, rather than being stuck in a garage. Hoping to make more meets this year and your always welcome to a pax in my lowly Vauxhall :cheers

Thanks, Ali. Only ever been in Stu Pollock's VX I think. And only cos Tut crashed, IIRC

Also just noticed. I've just clocked up 15,000 posts. What a thread to do it on!

Here's to another 15,000 nuggets of drivel. Albeit the next couple of thousand will certainly be sans-Lotus. So brace yourselves for TT and Octavia testimonials

Wouldn't rule that out in principle, Ali.

But I think anything older than a Toyota engined Elise will cost more in maintenance than might be saved in purchase cost.

I think the Vauxhall engines in the VX are fairly robust and that aside it’s fairly standard ‘Lotus’ kit.

I really liked our time with the VX, but I'm not sure I'd have one as an S1 replacement.

I mean I specifically chose to keep my, at the time 60k+ miles worn old S1 with a list of things needing done over a pretty much perfect 16k miles VX220.
I could use either as and when I liked for 5 years, I know which keys I reached for more often, though the VX wasn't abandoned by any means.

That being said, it was almost as quick, almost as good in the corners, more reliable, easier to get in and out of, easier to take the roof off, more aggressive looking. Didn't like the brakes as much (servo assisted and crap ABS that we had 'turned off' for most of the ownership).

Ours went for a steal as well, but needs must at the time :(

Hi Campbell, just wondered if you were aware that your Elise is on Ebay.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-LOTUS-E ... SwGk5ai~aK
Regular buyer of damaged Elise's selling it, I would imagine he got it for a fair bit less than the asking price.

Thanks Jamie. Was aware as it happens. Not going to sully this thread with commentary on the profiteering.

Discussion available on SELOC too if anyone is seeking amusement.
