I am in shock Campbell, I knew you had had an off, but never thought for a second that it would result in the car being written off...was there no way of a repair, or was it too far gone.
no chance of an insurance but back?

You must be heart broken :(

A very sad day.

Really sorry to hear about UJI, can't imagine how you feel. I was gutted after my S1 was written this time last year and I'd only had it a year.

The car maybe gone but these memories will last for ever

Cheers Graham

A sad end to a lovely story, but as mentioned above have you considered buying back from the insurer? I did that with mine and managed to pay for all the repairs plus some upgrades and still have cash left over.

It may affect resale value but if you're looking to hold onto it for some time, as I am, then it doesn't really matter.

Paul.

A few have now mentioned this aspect - won't bore you with the will we / won't we re: buy-back, upshot is not the right call for us at this time in history.

Some bright spark may do very well out of it, even just breaking for (many decent / nearly new) spares.

But I have a business to run and a family to focus on so I'm dialling out the sentiment and looking forwards

An S1 Elise is now a 20-year old car which is 80-odd in human years...care home time

That did cause some sleepless nights. Lisa played it down but I think she got a real fright.

It says a lot about Elise design strength that I walked away with no more than whiplash. The average hatchback would have been cubed.

I've lost a bit of driving mojo. Hopefully it'll come back but driving a Skoda or TT for a while might be no bad thing.

Ouch, sorry to hear about your accident and the demise of UJI. I still recall your excitement and enthusiasm during the time spent waiting for it to be delivered, and you taking it past my house shortly afterwards (and trusting me during a short drive).

Hopefully you will be back in another Lotus in the not too distant future...

Sorry to hear about the end of your Elise Campbell, but like you already said you've other things to think about and looking forwards not backwards is the thing to do.

On the bright side, your first post shows all the memories you got to make and they're something you'll always have!

I just got round to reading this on the full web browser.

I'm gutted for you especially since you'd put so much into it recently.

Focus on the positives though... you've had 18 years of pleasure and memories from it that you'll never forget. You also have a bunch of friends that you wouldn't have met without it and you can rely on for abuse at the drop of a hat.

I'm sure you'll with something in the not too distant future.

Sorry to hear about the car Campbell but at least you're here to tell the tale. At the end of the day, as much as you loved the car, and the history attached, the history lives on and you still get to tell the stories.

Welcome to the toe link club by the way.

Campbell,

So sorry to hear about UJI's demise. As others have said, I am sure you will look at the positives over the years you have spent with the car.

If there is an upside - winter is a great time of the year to buy another one and beat the spring rush :)

Terrible news Campbell.

UJI was a fixture at loads of events back in the day, SIDC stuff and road runs.
At least you are okay, maybe Santa will help you out.
After all the Loti I have had it still pains me that I have never had an S1.

I like your thinking!

Sadly, S1s are only moving upwards, towards and even beyond S2s. But the insurer would not factor this in. So any Lotus is out the question for some time.

Obviously I'll be trying to start a savings plan, mean time...
