20 Years On

Post by 111Robin » Thu Jan 04, 2018 5:25 pm

Campbell's thread made me realise that it's 20 years this month since I took delivery of my S1. It hasn't had anywhere near such an eventful existence unfortunately and perhaps under current circumstances it would be sensible to let it go, it would be a very tough decision though,

Looks lovely - 4k miles in 10 years suggests you should get out and about in it more!

I know. I used it often over the first few years but laterally I just haven't had much opportunity or even the wish to use it for various reasons. I'd still be loathed to sell it though, unless it becomes a necessity.

My S1 is R671 HSF. Left Murrays on 1st April 1998 so the 20th anniversary is fast approaching. Treating her to a suspension refresh this week but I think I need to take her on a special trip in April to celebrate, maybe a run up the west coast to Durness if the weather is decent. I wonder how many are left of the ones Murray sold around that time.

I was working in Dunfermline at the time, rushed through one night after work to primarily have a seat in one to see if I could reach the pedals at 5'6". None in the showroom but a customer car was in the workshop being prep'd for delivery so Patrick let me sit in it, shortly after that the deal was done. For months I deliberated on the colour/interior before confirming in time for the build date. The write ups in Autocar had mainly featured an Azure one so that's what really sold it to me. The red seats....... I'll never know why I went with them but I don't think they're too bad. The 12 month wait was agonising. By the time it arrived I was working in Aberdeen and had nowhere to keep it so it was at my dad's place for a couple of years until I had a place with a garage. I'm busy doing some welding on an old car just now but once finished I think I'll lavish some attention on the S1 and get some use out of it this year. Might even replace those 20 year old P-Zeros......................:)

Brilliant.

You must blow the cobwebs off it!

I will have a few S1 bits for sale shortly so keep your eye on the Classifieds section :-)
