What car to get...

Post by rawsco » Sun Jan 07, 2018 12:26 am

Just to dilute Dom’s ‘stir up a storm for traffic to crowd source life decisions’ thread I think I’ll jump in whilst it’s a bit fruity in here.

So... planning to buy a house next year... Exige might need to go as it’s a significant chunk of equity that miniblonde has her eye on for her dream house (and that was always the plan that I was kidding myself on with)... I’m ok with that as I love seeing Laura happy however, I’ve grown rather fond of the Exige (it’s the longest I’ve ever owned a car at 2 years 10 months). I’m missing daily driving something nice/special, the x5 is lovely but it was Laura’s choice really. Nice to drive, refined, comfortable and if you put new rubber on the front and not the rear cause the studs have seized it has comedy lift off oversteer which is entertaining and terrifying at the same time. BUT, we need a home, the dugs look at me in disgust as we are renting like millennials, it haunts me.

Anyhoo should I flog the Exige take the equity and use some of it for a deposit an Evora 400 or an Exige 380 then downsize miniblonde to a focus estate? OR flog them both and buy something mental and practical that can take a battering round a track and ship the dugz around?

Or... keep it status quo and refinance the Exige and try to convince the mortgage underwriter I’m not taking out a loan to fund a deposit!

I like the M2

The problem with selling Lotuses is that the prices are only going up. New ones are nudging 100k, which to me means that old ones ain't getting cheaper.

There's no pockets in a shroud.
How old's the X5?
Are you planning to keep her?
How old's Laura?

The other Lotuses are nice but yours is too. If you don't need capital out of yours, keep it and offer Laura a dream house on condition of a sensible car. She can't have everything

Don't ever suggest selling the Exige - it will be turned into a new kitchen before the buyer has reached the end of the street. Lotus will hold its value better than most other cars and waay better than an X5.

Evora is the answer - to many a question.
