Xenon bulbs

Have never had to replace a xenon bulb before, but one has just gone on the BMW. I've never been hugely impressed with them, so wondered if there's any recommended upgrades out there when swapping them over? Any particular colour temperature that works best? Believe the bulbs are D1S standard.
