Absolutely. McLaren pointed out (rightly imo) at the time that it's very difficult to beat a factory team with the same engine.
Renault are the exception to this as they are now possibly the slowest of the 3 teams they supply. Probably a combination of funding, the start 'Lotus/Endstone' was in when they returned and all the top guys being at Merc, Ferrari, Red Bull, and McLaren.
If they get their act together, that'd be Red Bull, McLaren and Renault up there it'd be much more interesting, though 5 high performing teams means the points places are all taken subject to reliability and accidents I guess.

I don't think the McLaren chassis is as good as McLaren think it is. They may struggle to improve their position and I don't think they are going to be challenging Red Bull any time soon, break downs not with standing.
On another note, damn have F1 cars got ugly, and not in a cool ugly I mean if it was a girl she'd be a 10 pinter and 2 paper bags ugly.

Not just you, i think you're completely on the ball on both points.
The McLaren with a Honda looked decent at a few races last year, but I wonder now if that was more down to the Honda being better than they were anticipating rather than the chassis being the best out there. I think they are still quite far off Red Bull, though they do look to have past Renault, in race mode anyway.
The cars are also damn ugly, and it's not just down to the halo either.
To be honest, visually, I more or less just judge the liveries now, the subtle intricacies of the crazy aerodynamics doesn't really interest me as it seems to me that they have no use in motoring away from the circuit and rule set - they are far too delicate for anything that would ever wear a number plate.
They are the shape the regulations force them into and with changes to the regulations being so subtle year after year, I don't see it getting much better either. I guess they see a big change as a requirement for huge investment which goes against the cost cutting culture they are trying to push, but I can't help feel that they are digging themselves further and further into a hole.
The cars are largely all the same to look at too - I think the barge board area is this year's area of difference.
Gone are the days when you could silhouette them and pick one out of the line up.

I guess the looks of the cars are just purely aero and regulations driven these days (and have been for a while). Bit like the McLaren Senna - fairly honking to look at, but I'm sure its effective!

Admittedly it’s not actually an LMP1 just a showcase. I’m sure it they “relaxed” the rules in F1 then time would tumble

I'm sure if they threw away just the fuel flow regulator an F1 car would go a lot quicker, never mind the other things Porsche did.

I think F1 cars are just to damned big. This, without doubt contributes to the aero instability when following another car. Minimal aero maximum mechanical grip = much better racing IMHO.

Can't deny this really.
I watched the 2 F2 races from Bahrain, much more action and much closer racing, though somehow not the same.
Still, that's 2 fairly decent GPs in a row now, by modern standards at least!
