I've had mine for 2.5 years, had zero engine lights, and zero problems.

Well, other than a puncture the other day.

And yes, 180bhp. with TWO turbos. You could probably fit a chavvy wastegate to it so it went ppptttssschhhhh when the DSG gearbox changed gears. Did I mention it's a DSG?
What age is it?

It was the golden age of sportlines. 62 plate. But like I say, i'm not sure I actually want to sell it. Plus I already have someone else interested in it.

This is how the ]audience members in Derren Brown shows must feel.

I know he's doing it but equally I know it's inevitable.

Defender 110, go TD5 and you can still have 3 seats in the front.

Rock solid residuals and loads of mods so you can upgrade it as you go along.

Also option of 110 twin cab, even Lara Croft and James Bond found them the perfect vehicle.

If you want a bit more refinement, go for Puma 2.2/2.4 but obviously more bucks.

that was very popular with everyone on the house who hasn't driven a defender... 5 points for a genuinely left field answer though.

Transporters are for builders, not family transport.
Another vote for a Caravelle. Lots of seats, middle row rotates or can be removed reasonably easily. The back seat isn’t easy to remove, but with it folded, I’ve had a 3-piece suite in it, plus a couple of dining chairs.
We’ve got 2 bikes inside ours just now, or carry 4 with a rack on the back.
Don’t worry about mileage, look for service history. Mine has just clocked 230k miles.

It is very difficult to buy family cars, I just don't care enough to spend that much money. Mr Moncreiff tried t sell me a Vito, which although it ticked all the boxes (auto, room for the bikes without dismantling them, cruise, heated seats) it was just too dull...

Thing is he seems to know which buttons to press...

"How about this?" he texts, attaching a rear 3/4s picture of a Caravelle.
"Yeah, really wanted a kombi (as we aren't Mormons and don't need a minibus) but that'd do. Let me speak to Suzy."
"You've got 5 minutes. I'm at the auction."
"Umm. OK. Buy it."
"You sure."
"Yep, money's in my account, it'll be in yours tomorrow."

So I've bought a Caravelle. Silver, 59 plate, leather and a TABLE!

No room for the bikes, no cruise and manual but the family's delighted with it (although they haven't seen it yet).

Next question, how is it an extra ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY pounds to insure compared to a Golf GTi? Insane. (Anyone want to buy a Golf in a few weeks, once I've made sure the wheels don't fall off.)

Is the golf an auto?

No the Golf's not an auto! You take that back!

It's the best car I've ever owned.

You'll possibly find that to add Cruise Control, all you need is a new stalk, and to tell the ECU that the button is there now. There are a few companies that can add CC to non CC cars for anything from £100 to £400... depending on what's involved.
