What's the views - new car, at least it's a Lotus

Post by IanD » Fri Jun 15, 2018 8:58 pm

What is the SE wisdom about this then ?

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds ... escription

I've had S2 Elise's - a 111s and a 111R both 54 plate MY15 models and prefered the feel, power delivery and brakes of the K series to the Toyota I had, only thing lacking was some overtaking power at higher speed and the very long 3rd gearing of the 111s so thought next lotus would be a later elise S2/S2.5 SC or possibly a late S2 elise k series converted Honda or if the 968 sold for very good money an early V6 Exige could be on the cards but not otherwise

Road fun driving and weekend use, I'm no mechanical expert to fettle and tweak the car, possible thoughts are not the best for a road car and I might feel the difference loosing some of MY15 features or creature comforts and a bit extreme for me with the spec. Simple things like central locking and electric windows made subtle but much easier use for me and I know I used the dash vents a lot for heating and cooling me and would miss them. And after 2 grey Elises, another darker grey one is not my top choice.

A tuned but not extreme K series with throttle bodies appeals but not so sure about it being a much earlier S2 than i had and it might need ongoing looking after. Saw the ad week or 2 ago and didn't think it was ultimate spec at all but since the CMC Elise SC that came up it has got me considering again.

That's lovely and I know what you mean about the K but I struggle to see them as reliable...

Nice car but guessing you can get newer, lower miles and better spec'd for same or slightly more money?

Has a special spec but at 83k miles it's going to need a lot of TLC. IMHO.

If it was me, I would get a newer supercharged Elise. 8)

I would go for a newer car, they get better screwed together as they get newer. You said your not a technical expert and older cars are going to need more TLC than something newer. The power hikes on newer cars make them feel so much more accomplished too.

Thanks, do agree with viewpoints above and was kind of what was in back of my mind, wondered if anyone thought differently, seemingly not.
Concise Graham maybe a bit harsh as it surely has a few nice bits on it and a lot of other over expensive or not needed parts for the '£15000' spend.

So maybe not.

Have you decided what you are going to do yet Ian?

I know a man that might be selling a Europa S if the price was right ;)

Only half serious Ross. I've had it a year and covered about 1000 miles. I'm just not getting a chance to use the bloody thing, and when I do it just complains at me! ;)

I still miss my S1 and I've always wanted a V8 Vantage or an Exige so just considering options. Will most likely just hang onto it however!

Hopefully be on track at the weekend with it however....if it gets me there

Just approaching 13mths with the Cerb - about 4k done including a wee euro jaunt last August to Spa for the F1 - barely a hiccup!

No plans on moving whatsoever :cheers

I quite like the car advertised, but it’s rich money for the age and mileage of the car regardless of how much money has been thrown at it...... my 111s is almost the way I want it but I love the engine but it’s always needing something fixed or addressed, which comes to a point on how much you want to spend to maintain it to a level you want.

Least with the ultimate elise as it’s been listed quite a few of the problematic things have been sorted.

I’d have it,......but it would be a low ball offer at best.

Nothing in very short term I really need to sell before I buy (unless someone can hide a lotus for me for a short or long time  ) and don't want left without a car for this summer waiting for my ideal lotus to turn up so think I'll stick with the porsche for summer, enjoy it, get more of the niggles sorted out meanwhile I'll watch the market and see what 968's are selling for. Limited market 968 club sports (56 on road another 80 sorn'd) mine is close to the desired spec but having 160,000 miles and 8 owners will reduce its demand especially in Porsche world.

Anyone with a Elise SC thinking of changing / moving theirs on 2010-2014ish at some point this year even if still a notion PM me

Sorry definitely needs to be a soft top or an early Evora would definitely be on the potential list.

160k miles? I'd never have guessed. Your car looks damned good considering!

I spotted a yellow 968CS in Kintore garage a couple of weeks ago, parked next to an RS200. Quite the pair. I nearly had a crisis. :)
