Damage during MOT

Post by steve » Thu Jul 05, 2018 6:06 pm

I’ve just picked up my elise from the local garage to discover damage to the passenger side sill, looks like some halfwit tried to jack it on the sill, either that or they lowered it down onto something substantial and resulted in an apple size whole and a split in the outer face.
They are not denying the event although the manager wants to check the cctv, the guy who was working on the car says it was not him but he wasn’t the one who did the MOT.
So what happens now? What I can say is I’m really angry about the whole episode, the car has only ever been touched by Lotus specialists during its whole life apart from today, lesson there for someone......
They haven’t as much admitted liability although they have volunteered to fix the damage, not sure I like that idea..
Is it worth seeking legal advice? Finally, can anyone recommend a decent body shop between Aberdeen and Inverness?
Got to have a drink now...

Sorry to hear this. I wouldn’t touch it myself and let your insurers get their legal on it from the outset as no doubt they’ll offer to fix it.

Sorry to hear this as well, not nice when it happens. As Sanjoy says, best to get the insurance involved as it will take all the leg work out of the way and means the garage acts very quickly (out of their own pocket or their own insurer)

I hear good reports of Castle Park Auto Body in Ellon from reports on Pistonhead once the insurers get on the case, Obviously would ask if they have experience of Elise's.

An interesting response from my insurance this morning, not ever having had to make a claim before I was admittedly expecting some more support considering the facts of the matter.
Yes I can go through my policy with the subsequent loss of excess and an increase in premiums next year or I can contact the garage insurance and deal with it myself was the message simply put....They would have been more interested if the damage was caused by another vehicle as it’s ‘more what their used to’.
Its in the hands of my solicitor now, I’ll see what she has to say about the event. Pi$$ed off doesn’t really do my feelings justice at the moment.

Legal cover from home insurance or motor policy. Get the lawyers onto them...
