S1 grille, possible group buy in carbon?

Post by jimbo » Thu Aug 09, 2018 11:13 pm

I've just posted in the classifieds, trying to get a replacement front grille. I see they're not made anymore which got me thinking maybe the solution is to replace it in carbon. Going to see if LM Corse will do it, anyone else fancy one? Might help convince them to do it if they're going to get more than one sale straight off the bat.

Egg crate grill?

One of the SELOC directors used to make them in resin, but I think they were a PITA to finish properly and the pigment stained everything so he may have stopped. May start up again if there is enough interest?

Thread from a couple of years back suggesting he may not be keen now:

If you find someone to make then, price dependant, I might be interested, I used to run one, and like the look, but when I redid the front end / rad etc a couple of years back, elected to fit my stainless steel one instead as the egg crate was looking a little worse for wear.

Yeah the egg crate one, not a huge fan of the metal ones tbh. LM Corse have done other things for me in the past so I'll ask if they're interested. They're normally really good on price.

Always fancied an egg crate grill, probably more pressing things to be done to the car but it depends on the price.

I wonder if you could 3D print it?

Not that bothered about a carbon one but I'd definitely be up for a group buy to get a spare.

Would be a good wee experiment for a 3D printer.

It would be, pity mine isn't big enough. I wonder if the rear grills will fit on the bed of my printer as it might work as a proof of concept. A hexagon pattern might look cool.

Anyone got one of these they'd be happy to photograph and take detailed measurements of? (Mine is very badly broken). LM Corse don't have a 111s egg crate grille to use as a template so can't decide if they can do it in carbon yet, but said they could certainly look at it with the relevant pics and measurements.
