Re: SE Events In 2019
My mate had a relative working in the office and still couldn't get a booking when he needed one when I was selling his car and we needed on the main land. With the growing popularity of the NC500 the knock effect on the island traffic has been equally dramatic.Sanjøy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 8:34 pmMy first IT job was at Calmac and still have good friends there if we need help with block bookings etc.Mikie711 wrote:Just noticed this so sorry for the late info but that is a murderously busy ferry service. I have a friend who lives on the island and it needs booking well in advance especially for a large group. It's not a turn up and drive on service even for islanders. Just to make you aware.C7Steve wrote: ↑Wed Sep 05, 2018 1:24 pmI have just had a look at return prices for the Ullapool ferry and it would be £100 for a car, £20 per adult and £10 per 5-15 year old child. Under 5 is free.
I am unsure whether the additional costs would put people off from coming. I think that it would be great to meet up at Ullapool and board the ferry together.
It looks like the last ferry departs on a Friday at 17:30 and arrives in Stornaway at 20:00.

Any recommendations for a campsite for those that have been across?
There are quite a few to choose from.

Book well in advance and be prepared to take alternative crossings.

A new event for 2019 (in addition to all the plans discussed above)

Basically, I'm doing this even if I do it solo. Join me if you can!

Didn't have energy to review the thread in case already mentioned, but...
...SE turns 20 next year. In early May.
How about a couple of nights away., access to a few nice roads, partners/friends encouraged, and a big group dinner to celebrate, around that time?
Macdonald Resort Aviemore as we used for Tut Testimonial 2017? Although things are deteriorating there I hear.
Or Isles of Glencoe hotel. Scene of many SIDC Tour d'Ecosse base camps?
Whatever the case, prob needs fair size place. Coach tour spec (!)
I think it would be worth marking the community's "China Anniversary"
10-12 May 2019 I reckon. Avoids bank hol weekend.
Views sought please before I make any organisational effort.
For such a landmark period in the life of Scottish Elise’s, how about somewhere luxurious in Pitlochry for a a place to stay?

Our other halves can have some time together in the Spa and enjoy the Saturday getting pampered. It’s easy to get to and a shorter journey on the Friday night for us all. Brilliant roads further north for a run and to places that are not usually frequented by the sassenachs.
Saturday, we could have a run up over Glenshee and the Lecht area with a stop for lunch up on the coast anywhere from Nairn to Macduff, then back to the hotel for a quick change and meal. (We could pass the crematorium and give Tut one of his legendary waves, and have a reminder how he touched our lives)
Something like this for the morning; 09:30-13:00 https://goo.gl/maps/LLywum5ekMv
Lunch 13:00-15:00
Return afternoon run; 15:00-18:00
https://goo.gl/maps/9SZMuKi6gRU2
Bar for drinks, then freshen up and meet up for dinner.
Sunday morning could be a late check-out at around 11:30 then drive to Aberfeldy, Tummel Bridge, Sma Glen, Crieff and lunch at Dunblane. Lunch around 13:30 - 15:30.
https://goo.gl/maps/3rJfuu4Au1C2
Short journey home for us all.
Also to add that there is plenty of places to stay in Pitlochry too and we could stay in a cheaper hotel and book out a separate restaurant for us all. We could approach them with numbers and arrange our meal choices which makes it much easier for them and we would get exclusive use for the evening.
Just an idea from myself, but happy to do whatever you choose.
Looking forward to it already, as it’s always great spending time with the SE crowd.
Steve.

Re: SE Events In 2019
For me a ferry in Ullapool on the Friday probably wouldn’t work. There will probably be others that can’t get away from work till later for them to rush to make a ferry will be a bit tight.
Pitlochry sounds like a much more achievable option.

Re: SE Events In 2019
Steve, thanks for posting about Lewis / Harris ferry, looks like a challenge but worthwhile for those interested as a smaller event with more complicated logistics.
Will reply on other thread about the May event.

I’ve got guy in my team joined from there. He is pretty full on so probably has all passwords or knows how to get them and could hack it and book us all up for free
Re: SE Events In 2019
Just a quick post to say thanks to everyone for making SE more active in recent weeks. More people are organising events and runs and there have been some new members joining too. Also there has been some interest from a few people of getting back in a Lotus again which is always a good thing. Hopefully somebody can step up and organise a couple of camping trips next year which would be great. (I decided not to organise any camping trips for next year, so that someone else could do it and make it more suitable for their dates).
A trip to Knockhill (KH) and some sort of event organised in the memory of Tut is looking likely and hopefully we can make it a full day instead of the usual morning session.
Thanks again,
Steve.

Thanks for the kind words Sanjoy, but I only provided a little nudge and reminder.

Don't be modest, Steve, you're well deserving of the mod appointment, and a great organiser. Thanks for your efforts!
I'm a terrible organiser, but I'll do my best. I'm happy to sort the camping trips for next year (a bit nearer the time). My girls will kill me if we don't go camping at least twice in 2019! Although, selfishly, I'm not going so excited about the big camping trips where I have to take the wagon; I'm much more excited about the overnight solo runs in the 2-11 with just a wallet, 30 changes of underwear, and a toothbrush for getting the flies out my teeth!
