Tut the Legend

The Tut Testimonial back in Aviemore 2017 has turned out a great display of affection and a great source for stories.

Glad that happened when it did.

Sad news. A true legend who made a big impression on all who met him. Was a privilege to have been hooning with him. I remember following him round the Kinlochleven Loop just a couple years ago. I had no chance of keeping up!

I had to log in here to check what I thought I'd just seen elsewhere, saddened to hear the news but I don't think anyone could live life as much as Tut... Doesn't really seem all that long ago we first met at Knockhill in 2003, and he still managed to evolve his cars so much since then!
Raising a glass of the obvious in his honour.

So many tall tales.

Stelvio 2001, some hotel stop I find Tut fiddling under the engine cover. Again. Never a good sign.

"Wotcha doing, Tut?"

"Oh just loading a new map for N1, she's struggling with the altitude"

He's got the laptop plugged into the Emerald, it all looks very F1 and professional. Until the laptop battery fails. Prematurely.

"It's ok Tut, I'll get a cable reel from the hotel"

"Errrr no, mate, no point. Never brought the adapter brick for the laptop, didn't think I'd need it!"

I can't remember how this now partially unmapped incarnation of N1TUT actually got well enough again to complete the trip but it did . And it dicked many a Spanish farmer's van along the way.

Legend or folklore? Neither. Just another true story

Edited to add - epilogue:

(Robin managed to borrow a charger and adapt to to fit the netbook - original map installed, tut was warned to leave it well alone, or he’d be walking the rest of the route )

Tut tells me one day that he knows an ex special forces Major who lives nearby in Comrie
Tut tells me he got him and his men “ out of the sh*t” a couple of times....under fire

The local syndicate here shoots over the aforementioned Major’s land and I had a chat with him during the lunchtime drinks

“Davie Duncan reckons he got you out of the sh*t a couple of times?”

Indeed he did..... was the response!

Been looking back at photos and stories all day with tears in my eyes but a smile on my face. Lots of great memories with him, from my first time meeting him (and the rest of you!) at KH for the LoT full day trackday at Knockhill and his hand would touch my leg while he “missed the gearstick” after McIntyre’s! then all the other trackdays, road runs, camping trips, parties (remember the one we had in Menstrie Castle?!), dinners, right up to the last trackday in June with Ian and Luke and then the very last time I saw him sitting next to him sharing a nan bread at the Abz Curry last month. Tut, you were a special man, and will be sorely missed.

My heartfelt condolences to Verian and the family, sending you lots of love. Xxxx

sad news, even knowing that sooner or later this moment would come it still upset me
spent all day looking at the memories and photo's. what a legend ! made me feel sad and laughed at the same time with the memories.
you bugger, you knew I don't like Laphroagh and now I will have a headache tomorrow drinking your favorite.
all the good memories : French Frolics, Stelvio trips, many trackdays, and top always were your Tut Tower events.

There are few characters that stick in the mind as much as Tut, he was an absolute legend. Brilliant laugh, fast as hell and just a great guy to be around. Whenever he was about, everyone gravitated to him. Until he got in his car, then he left everyone in dust! Chasing him down on the Kinlochleven road a few years ago during a great trip up to Skye will never be forgotton. Only sorry I didnt meet up with him more often, he was a great laugh.
