Which Lotus

Post by Mikie711 » Sun Nov 18, 2018 11:04 pm

So as most on here know I've had a fair few Lotus over the years in various shapes and states of tune. So, thinking of getting another one but I really don't know what to go for having been out of touch with the newer cars.
I think i'm leaning toward an Elise rather than an Exile but having never really looked a an S3 I was wondering how different they are or are they just more of the same versus an S2 yoga car.
Owners thoughts and experiences as well as option please.

I can't give you a full comparison Mike because I haven't owned enough variants.

But I have been mightily impressed with my S3 Club Racer S.

However. Given that you built an Exige S spec Elise S2 with 260 brake, you might find the S3 a little lacking! And sadly the Cup 250s don't seem to have a great track record.

What about an Exige Cup?

Or. More importantly. How do you plan to use the car?

Been there done that, the 430 is ridiculous money for an Exile given that mine was about half the price of the new one. Must admit I have been looking at Elise 250 cups but think the 220 is better value and it can't be that different to the 250.
I am more thinking Elise than Exige and it would be purely a fun car, usual stuff TD's, runs etc so don't want to tie up a lot of money in it.

In which case any supercharged S3 will do

I forgot you'd had an Exige v6 already.

Something about build quality of Cups troubles me tho. Lovely spec too.

You built that car, so you know it inside out.

Supercharged Elise would be the sweet spot in my eyes. Lighter than the V6, cheaper on fuel, tyres and brakes. Enough power for some fun on the road and track. More reliable than a S1 and easier to get spares, but you know all that already.

Good to see you getting another Lotus again. :thumbsup

I have also come to the conclusion that an S2/S3 Supercharged elise is the way forward. Going to keep my eye out for the right one. Would really like one in orange like the one at (Murrays/whatever the name/lotus edinburgh) at the moment.

Having came from a V6 Cup I think you'd feel you were missing something with a fruity Elise unless north of 300hp, not sure I would go back to an S2 Exige after the 350, much preferred the 350 both on track and on road

S2 Exige isn't out of the question when comparing to S3 Elises if you can find the right one.
