Black Friday TV deals - HELP

Post by Scotty C » Mon Nov 19, 2018 5:44 pm

We are about to move house and need a new tv for the sitting room.

We are ditching Sky (see if we can live without it). So Freesat or freeview and has to be Smart (i guess they all are?)

Its a good size room and has cables in the wall already, Dont know what they are connected to as yet.

Not wanting to spend big money, £1000 tops and that would include a sound bar if needed or do all new Tvs need soundbars?

Scotty

I've had a quick look -

A bit over budget but this -

https://www.johnlewis.com/lg-oled55b8sl ... r/p3661161

Is by far the cheapest OLED I've seen.Prices seem to be constant, but you'll get the 5 year warranty from JL.

The speakers will be OK at best. You can always try it and buy a soundbar later if you want.
Samsung 55 here -

https://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue55n ... k/p3501176

Will be OK if you go into the picture settings and turn all the crap off.The sound will almost certainly be rubbish.
Enough budget for a basic soundbar or for a bit more money you could get something like a Sonos Beam.

That's exactly the same one I was about to post. Freeview & Freesat so it'll work with whatever you connect it to. Presumably they'll have one on display in JL so you'll be able to see if the sounds bad enough to need a soundbar.

I'm not a tv / av buff, but the picture on the LG oled tv we got recently is just so much better than anything else I've owned that even we notice the difference. We bought an LG sound bar with it at the same time and actually prefer the tv speakers to the soundbar for everything apart from music.

Scotty
It looks like Currys are doing the TV with a 5 year warranty also (suspect the warranty is by LG and not Currys), there's also cashback of up to 15% via Quidco - link here-

https://www.quidco.com/currys-pc-world/ ... f9c19bc8d2

Second option down.

The amount of the cashback isn't stated however.
You'll need to create an account if you haven't already.

Would also recommend Richer Sounds, if you become a "VIP Club" member I am sure you get 6 years guarantee on the products :
https://www.richersounds.com/vip-club

however it does state "vast majority of".

Enjoy

You may have to register online to get the 5 year warranty if you didn't go to John Lewis

The Sony centre in Falkirk were sending me emails with some pretty good deals... great wee shop, independent and very helpful. I’m gonna pop in this weekend to see what they have... they typically price match interwebnet deals too.

Well just Black Fridayd (on a Saturday) a new Bravia 65 xf90 HDR beast and a Sonos Sound Bar which means I’ve got the full 5.1 gig in the lounge now. Bravia looks very good especially dealing with fast motion and supports Dolby vision so looks amazing on Netflix. It displaced a Samsung 7000 series 55 inch and its night and day difference in picture quality.
