PS4 and VR headset

Post by Mikie711 » Thu Nov 22, 2018 12:24 am

Was at Craig W's tonight and had a go at Gran Trurismo with the VR headset for the PS4. Damn that's addictive, gives a real sense of elevation change that you don't get on the telly never mind the ability to look around and pick you apex.
Resolution not the best but plenty good enough for that game which isn't optimised for VR yet. Cool bit of kit and if used with a race seat/wheel/pedals would be awesome.
Anyone else tried it, is there other driving games it would work with?

Ive been contemplating building a PC setup for Assetto Corsa and Project Cars, it does look very good. I just need to get started on it really.

I want to do this too, but for R Factor. Let me know if you do it. :thumbsup

Just a pity actual racing is limited in it. Firewall (with the aim controller) is another jaw-dropper!

I had the ps4 headset thing and thought it was so poor I returned it. Was really really disappointed with it - ive tried better Chinese no name brand VR.

Found the screen I was using was vastly better in every regard - but then its 2m x 3m and 7.1 Surround.

Made me :puke

Gran Turismo was the worst of them. I'm sure you can build up a resilience but just having a quick shot made me very queezy. Maybe having to wear glasses inside the VR headset doesn't help

Got the Vive at launch , sold last Christmas. Project Cars worked well unless you hit the kerb then the bumpy screen just made me feel sick. Headset gets hot too which doesn't help either. I believe in VR, its here to stay but its not good enough yet. Anything that offers immersion and increased realism is a good way forward IMO. Vive pro offering 90mhz and 1440 x 1600 pixels per eye, would like to give it a go. Vive standard was 1080×1200 by comparison, would not buy it again. We have a few dedicated gamers in the office they swear by high screen refresh rates (v-sync 120 mhz). Think VR may need to get to 120mhz @ 4K to be good enough IMO. Time will tell.

Loved Dirt4 on the VR. A friend has fitted a real fly off handbrake to his steering wheel setup ( micro switch fed to one of the controller buttons) and it's properly good fun to drive. Still makes you quezy on the jumps but in general it's mush less puke inducing. 👍
