Lol 60k tops if I can use it year round. Gomma need to be 40-50 for something with no roof or heater etc.
On the Porsche note I’m not a huge fan of the standard models but do like a 911 turbo, the 911s need a spoiler and some intakes. As for a Cayman, I’d consider it as long as it’s got 6cyl but Porsche dealer network is crap and give even less fcuk than lotus.

Sorry, got carried away on the budget!
I agree the GTS is very understated styling wise which is appealing for some.
Back in budget Porsche Perth have a Cayman R:

I'll admit I don't like that one with the silver accents but probably a closer rival to a V6 Exige than anything else mentioned.
On the dealer network Porsche Perth have been great with me while my 3.2 Carrera has been in (it's still there actually) and they gave me a Macan for a week, granted I have no experience with sales and after sales though and the loaner was likely a fat worm to tempt me to the showroom..

I don't think you can really compare an R8 V10 to an Exige, totally different cars in my opinion.
From what you have said though Ross I'd still be leaning towards the Lotus. I know you have had a particularly bad experience with the current one but there are good ones out there. The experience you get in a Lotus is very unique I would say and I think its something you would possibly miss once the bitter taste from your current situation has passed.

Thought of the Porsche Spyder (either 987 version or low spec 981).
Know it should not matter but the 987 residuals are great as long as you spec the right combo and keep the miles lower.
Coming from Evora to the 987 I certainly did not feel short changed and with only 100 manuals/100 PDK's they should not be a familiar sight.
Yes I know it might not have the friendlness of the Lotus community but its a great car. Not been fortunate enough to own a GT3, but based upon the comments is 95% a GT3 at a fraction of the price.

The R8 is more fun in the winter. Its a truly useable all year car. As Mike says the fuel costs can be quite high but if you arent doing mega miles its epic.
Magnetic ride for me was only clicked when I took it on track - the first V8 one had them replaced - wasnt too horrific a bill from memory.
If you can get a Spyder then that would be my choice as the V10 sounds truly epic -and you cant hear much of it in the Coupe.

Probably jumps into the "too old category" but wondering whether a Clio V6 would tick any boxes. If you go for the Mk2 then you won't have the scary handling of the Mk1.
Someone mentioned Alfa 4C, sure there was an evo article where Prodrive sorted the suspension so its a lot more compliant than the factory version and works on UK roads.
Also 996 GT3 is probably within budget as well but may be too old.

Spotted a R8 V10 in Dundee the other day , could see myself in one certainly. Not sure I could stomach the price though.
I understand your pains with the Exige v6 but could you live with an Elise ? tried and tested formula , less to go wrong and cheaper (relative) to fix.
On another note the Elise 2020 may appear in erm .. 2020 in theory. If you can wait.
To be honest your clutch thread is making me doubt my want for a v6

I just bought a car from the Porsche Centre in Perth, both Ally and Hamish were excellent to deal with.
Knowledgeable, friendly and Hamish is a real car enthusiast.

They are all brilliant when you're buying, once you have had the car a while they lose interest I guess unless you're a serial buyer. I wasn't and they knew I thought they were useless, or at least they should have. I told them often enough.

how about a porsche boxster spyder?
ex-elise owner pal of mine had a similar budget and list of requirements. he also looked at the v10 r8. lotus feel in a german car. not had a run in it get but its quite a pretty thing too
although my heart would say exige

Definitely a good shout a 987 spyder.
But as some one mentioned above (who knows, check the sig) you would just need to accept lots of depreciation if you intend to drive it at all and add miles, some/lots of Porsche stuff is really stupid that way imo
Or find one that has done 50K miles if they exist, sorted, drive and enjoy with no worries of depreciation although you never know it may fall apart at 51K
