I liked having my 987 Spyder as a thing.
It looked lovely, there's not many of them, I had my head screwed on when I bought it and made a few bob when I sold it.
The downside was that it never really felt that special on the road. It was almost more interesting to other people than it was to me. I don't miss it and wouldn't consider another but on the other hand I do sometimes miss my Type 72 Exige for all the positive reasons that I never got from the Porsche.

Having owned a number of both Porche and Lotus you do get a much better reaction from a Lotus. You almost always get a reaction in a Porsche but not always positive.
Always turned heads with the R8 as they are not nearly as common as Porsche at least up here.

Must admit, I'm really warming to the Idea of an R8 maybe for a year or two. I bought the Exige with a view to doing more road miles as I feel that I was simply using my s2 on track only given how compromised it was for road use, the Exige definitely fitted that bill but I do love the R8 and there won't be many more if an N/A V10s coming the in the future that I could ever hope to afford...

They are all brilliant when you're buying, once you have had the car a while they lose interest I guess unless you're a serial buyer. I wasn't and they knew I thought they were useless, or at least they should have. I told them often enough.
You're wrong there.
I went in to Porsche Aberdeen twice and they didn't show the slightest bit of interest even before i bought a car (so i went elsewhere).

Do not know whether anyone has suggested it, but have you thought of a Nissan GTR?

Only driven one once and it was pretty impressive. Only downside I found whilst driving my mates was that you sense the width of the car on the back road. Number of times that I felt you were literally sucking yourself in due to the size of the car.

Had an Exo VIII FQ-330 at the time and suspect the Evo would have been a much better driving experience for the Grampian back roads we were on.

It’s a buyer’s market
Don’t be afraid to offer a low bid on any prospective purchase as the market is currently on its arse!
I was out for supper with “Scotland’s Largest Trade Buyer” and he stated he had never seen it so depressed .
Many dealerships have ground to a halt on car sales and subsequently not buying in used vehicles for stock

Expect a few manufacturer supported deals to get things moving

Just to add:
If your purchasing a private sale that has a significant cost, the majority of people will head to a dealership for peace of mind, potential trade in and finance deals.

Means that any private sale worth a decent wedge of cash will have significantly less footfall and lots more bargaining position to be had.

I nearly went for an RS4 down south where the guys was trading in for a Porsche but putting his up for private sale prior. Would have probably saved me £2-4k. As it was pretty unique being a yellow RS4, was sorely tempted with the cost saving. Due to the fact that it would take 6x the effort to convince Sandra on the colour - decided to let it go

ive owned 2 now and I wouldn't (if It wasnt for experience stuff).

Fairly basic inside ( I love the exterior styling ) a bit clunky , and sh*t when cold. Ballistically quick but not far from dreadful on track if you are used to light stuff - or take it to Litchfield, who genuinely can transform the car.

fuel - makes Oliver reed look like a t-totaler
tyres - violates them
brakes - discs are min £2200 a set
suspension - you have to set it to soft every time you set off - unless on track
fuel (2) - it wont do 3 laps at the ring!
tyres - massacres them - 2 tonnes at large G doesnt work well

its Ferrari running costs minimum.

although on the upside, can drivers love you and actively show it by letting you out of junctions, and its it astoundingly quick especially in the wet

I love driving the GTR, it’s really understated so only people who know what it is pay attention! (Like you said Andy about Van drivers! ) It’s also lighting quick. However, I don’t think I could live with it every day and running costs are ridiculous.

R8 I also love, especially the Spyder, it’s so lovely to be inside and drives well but also sounds amazing and you get positive reactions from the muggles.

I absolutely adored my 997 GTS. It was beautiful, sounded amazing, comfy, kinda practical, but never had it on track so don’t know what that would’ve been like.

However, there’s nothing like a Lotus.... they’re just special. If I had to choose I have a Lotus over anything, plus a daily shed.
