Holidaying Abroad with Pets

Post by douglasgdmw » Thu Jan 17, 2019 9:08 am

Hi,

As Brexit is looming, the sensible thing would be to stay at home and not venture into Europe this summer. However we are toying with the idea of popping across to Europe this summer for a couple of weeks.

Due to Star not being great at travelling (he's not sick thankfully) I suspect that we will probably venture about 4.5 hours max away from the normal ferry channels. So any recommendations on regions or locations would be good. Suspect villa's would probably be our best bet to cut down on the overall cost.

We did price up Hull to Zeebrugge and was amazed that it came to £780 with cabin/car and pets. Any other suggestions on getting across would be appreciated (was wondering if the trek down south would be easier even though it involves a long car journey initially).

Obviously none of us know what is happening with pets passports with Brexit so currently an unknown.

Worth considering getting the rabies antibody titre blood test done George. There is a POSSIBILITY that the uk will be considered an unlisted third country meaning a return to pre-2014 (?) regulations. All gets a little bit of a faff timing-wise and a potential waste of money if that isn’t the case but worth having a chat to your vet to look at the options.
Edit to add
Obviously talking about the dogs, not you and your dear wife-no need for you guys to be vacced agaibst rabies yet!
